Driftwood — Restaurant in San Francisco

Wanting to bond with some new friends over booze last week, and, being in the area, the six of us decided to check out Driftwood, which had been sitting in my bookmarks for months.

Having a Langton and Brooklyn over the next two hours, and sips of drinks from the others, I'd say that their cocktails are all pretty solid, quite tasty, and reasonably priced. And, on a Wednesday night at least, the venue itself is a pretty chill and cozy joint, being very conducive to conversation, or, as the couple sitting behind us proved, making out without a care in the world.

Venue - A medium sized bar with some couch/sofa based seating towards the front and the back. The bar itself is, of course, standard bar counter height, so the former is much more accessible than the latter.

We've wanted to try this place for a long time, since it's in our neighborhood and there always seems to be people inside.

Well, we finally went and... it was just okay. One of the bartenders greeted us and then went MIA. The other bartender had a very bad attitude with us + everyone who walked in, to the point where it just killed our vibe for the rest of the night :/

Overall, this place just felt kind of pretentious and try-hard. We left there asking ourselves why we paid for overpriced cocktails, just to have the good mood ruined for the night. We were kicking ourselves for not going to another bar we knew would've...

I wandered into Driftwood for a drink and ended up having a really good time. The bartenders were great and I ended up talking with all kinds of people. It's a really chill place to have a drink. They have great cocktails, but I went off the menu and ordered a mezcal Margarita. The bartender was obliging and made one for me anyway. I was visiting from out of town, but this is definitely the kind of place that I would go back to. The neighborhood isn't exactly the safest in the world, so you might want to consider taking an Uber. It could be that I'm just from out of town, but that's just the vibe that I...
