Glad you asked I'm so glad you asked Google. I had actually forgotten about the experience I found it quite regretfully painful. My guy made reservations for my birthday on Yelp. Which reminded us every hour on the hour that we have reservations for the night we went. We were the first through the door us at 5:13 we had reservations for 5 p.m. no big deal okay so we're sitting at the last table in the back of the restaurant next to the waitress booth okay no biggie we're a couple we have no kids but we thought okay then we're told that what's available tonight is our price fix menu we thought okay this is what you specialize in great then we waited 34 minutes we were served a One Bowl salad. Caesar salad wasn't what we thought but again we're like okay. Then I had the nerve to order sangria so sad I will serve grape juice which bubbled at the top so thick you thought it would have been whipped foam for a latte. That was concerning so I didn't drink it I moved it to the side I moved about my water. My God was a little frustrated as our dishes remained on the table after each course they piled up then we received one Singular plate aposta that was beyond al dente so it couldn't be refer to as pasta. It was so sad what was even worse for the lack of sauce I've seen more sauce on a can of Chef Boyardee on the nights my mom was at home and our housekeeper cooked. I don't eat meat so my God was great to eat the meatballs I was saddened by the spaghetti at this point the frustration mounted the plates mounted we've been ignored exile to the back of the restaurant to be forgotten but the families and screaming kids I thought to myself okay it's New Year's Eve it's my birthday I'll just in Dora and we'll go to a party but then it happened he asked the waitress a question and was ignored I asked for the right just to stop and was ignored and that little thing in the back of my mind where I try to figure out what's wrong turned into the snowball of what exactly what I thought it was me. What saddens me about this experience is not that it was birthday reservation or a special night for myself it's that moment when you realize that your brown skin got you seated in the back your brown skin got you ignored by the waitress your brown skin ruined their Night by spending your money and a restaurant that didn't want you there. I've been a lot of places in San Francisco and there are a lot of wonderful establishment to eat from matter of fact we have a restaurant opening at least once a day in the city so I'll never run out of places to dine. But it's places like this then the gate the reason why my decision to Don will never be based on what you think it will only be based on my taste buds. My taste buds deserve better thank you Emily spaghetti Shack for reflecting the old sedimentary biased phobic silly sick twisted and mental illness that needs to wash away from San Francisco. May your business flourish and your rent raise best...
Read moreSmall seasonal menus keep food delicious and priced well. It's cute and funky inside, hand-written menus, aprons strung across the restaurant, booths along two walls. Service is always great. Food is delicious comfort food, portions are huge.
Garlic bread: buttered with herbs and garlic, crispy toasted. Not smothered in cheese, but buttery, garlic-y and perfect.
Barry's Caesar Salad: 3 of us shared this, it was HUGE. Dressed perfectly, with super crisp Romaine. It's a great salad to share between 2-4 people.
Spaghetti and Meatballs: Someone in another review mentioned the "meat boulders" which made me laugh... and then we saw the meatballs, they're HUGE. I really enjoyed the tomatoe-y sauce. The meatballs were delish too. A meatier-style meatball, it didn't seem to have a lot of bread inside if any.
Fettucine with Spicy Italian Sausage, Roasted Cauliflower, Parmesan Cream Sauce, topped with Herbed Bread Crumbs: really, really yummy. The cauliflower and spicy sausage balanced the richness of the dish. The bread crumbs were added some crunch. Yum.
Doughnut: So good. So good. So good.
Orange Blossom Martini: very nice. Not too sweet, citrusy and clean.
The High Roller: super nice. We could smell the vanilla, we could taste the lemon.
There were 3 of us: we ordered a small garlic bread and Caesar salad to share, 2 spaghetti and meatballs, one fettucine, and the doughnut to share. We went home with half of the fettucine and a whole order of spaghetti and meatballs, which is fine if you like leftovers (which we do).
The only thing: it was way too loud for us inside. I've worked at restaurants for years and years, including ones that always have the music too loud (the result is that I'm a little hard of hearing, I swear, and it was still too loud for me in there!!!). Maybe it was just that night? At any rate, we found ourselves leaning across the table and yelling a bit. If the volume of the music could go down a bit, I think that it would have made a unique and special experience the...
Read moreI've been wanting to come here for years! And I'm so glad I got the chance to dine here recently.
My friend and I shared an order of garlic bread, as well as the focaccia bread that comes free with olive oil/balsamic vinegar. Both were so delicious, but I think I would've been okay with just the focaccia bread just because it was a carb overload with the two breads and spaghetti.
Speaking of the spaghetti, I got it with the vegan meatballs. The vegan meatballs were okay. They're definitely not going to replicate the juicy tenderness of meat. But after eating plenty of Impossible burgers, I think my expectations of meat substitutes have changed. The vegan meatballs are made with tempeh, oats, and veggies, that fell apart as you cut into them. I actually wouldn't mind it if the vegan meatballs were grounded into the marinara sauce. Otherwise, I would just order the spaghetti.
And the spaghetti was delicious, with enough to save for lunch the next day! The marinara sauce had a bold tomato flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly.
For dessert, we ordered the chocolate truffle cake, which was sinfully good. It was warm and gooey in the middle, which went well with the cold and creamy ice cream. A great way to end the meal.
Service was awesome! Everyone their was so nice. And I love the atmosphere. It's the type of restaurant where you know you're in San Francisco: a bit eccentric with great food.
I'd love to eat their spaghetti again, and order a drink. They have a good wine list, and...
