I think it's a little sad when you try something for the first time and it still remains to be the best you've had even after all this time. Only because nothing can surprise you anymore. But the good trade off is, hey, you've found The One.
I've tried other places for mochi donuts around the Bay Area but Mochill is still my favorite. Don't get me wrong, Modo is good too. But Mochill donuts has the flavors pinned down. You know it's matcha at first bite. With others, you have to kind of "find" the flavor, if that makes sense. And the contrast of crispiness on the outside while it's perfectly chewy and soft inside is remarkable!
I even remember how I knew about the store. It was my first time in Japantown at SF and was just looking around. Saw a person holding a white box so carefully as he passed by me. After a minute or two, I saw a couple of people holding same white boxes. Until finally I got to this unassuming corner of the mall and a store associate handing the customer the same kind of white box I saw the others holding. This was the world telling me to try it!...

Fortunately I don't have a Gluten allergy...Gratitude. Mochill Mochi Donuts aren't overly sweet either. They aren't sugar bombs like some other donuts or desserts.
The Mochill Donut stand / storefront is located in Japan Town SF. Mochill actually shares the space with Takoyaki Yama-chan.

Cinnamon Sugar, Chocolate, Kinako and Matcha are the regular flavors available on a daily basis. Two other flavors are randomly added as "Today's Special." They have a calendar listing the rotating flavors on their website. .
I found some of the rotating flavors to be absolutely amazing! I try and stop by whenever I'm in the...
Read moreOmg, I tried this for the first time over the weekend at SweetSpot dessert festival and it was easily the best thing I tried there! They're less sweet and sticky than regular donuts which is a major plus, although it means I end up eating more of these than I would eat regular donuts, haha. I ended up going to their store the next day since I was already in Japantown and picked up a box to share at home. They were surprisingly cheaper than I expected ($2 a pop, $12 for a box of 6) and the shape makes them easy to share since they can be broken apart into smaller balls. There were six flavours on Sunday: Nutella, Fruity Pebbles, Black Sesame, Houjicha, Matcha, Cinnamon Sugar. I haven't tried all of them yet, but so far the ones I've tried have all...
