Nande-Ya — Restaurant in San Francisco

This restaurant is an insult to actual Japanese restaurants. If you have self respect, don't eat here. The whole time I was here the restaurant played static on the radio loudly. No one noticed. I was served a rotten bamboo garnish in my ramen. No one noticed. I was served an old half rotten slice of cucumber. No one noticed. Our water glasses were given to us with a quarter inch of filthy water with crumbs and oil in it. Not to mention lip marks still present from the last diner. No one noticed. Rice was mush? They decided that was good enough for us. My seat was covered with chunks of food that I had to clean before sitting. No one noticed. I asked for fresh cups and was told that they just came from the dishwasher... We were given two more even filthier cups and were told that is how their dishes are... When fish has a strong scent and flavor, it is also a sign. You can smell the lack of cleaning in this place. I do not have unreachable expectations. Clean dishes, non rotten/ old food and maybe if the radio reception is bad and only static, turn it off. This is not a Japanese restaurant. It is a Japanese themed restaurant. I would bet money the chef is not Japanese. This establishment does not respect you as a human, much less as a patron. I do not suggest rewarding them with your business or risking illness due to their disregard for basic health principles. Hopefully you read this before selecting this place. This place has horrible customer service. I will first start off with the fact that it took them about 30 minutes to take our order (it was very slow when we were there) One of my friends is vegetarian and ordered the veggie tempura and the waitress brought him shrimp and veggie tempura. He kindly told her that he ordered veggie and not shrimp and she took his plate then came back with the menu and aggressively pointed at the shrimp and veggie menu item with chopsticks and told him that it was what he ordered and kept saying “NO!” when he told her that he didn’t. Then she told him that he had to order that since he wrote down the menu item when we were never given anything to write on, the waitress wrote everything down. She was yelling and very rude. Once the waitress came to pick up the plates she was doing it in an aggressive manner and slapped my boyfriends hand so that he can move it out of the way. Like seriously who does that? We then got our receipt and were getting ready to pay when another lady came by and said “oh here’s your receipt with tip added” I don’t mind tipping but when i get service like that it’s a no. She added about $20 for her tip which is ridiculous given the way she treated us. We didn’t argue about that and still payed our bill with the tip she added on her own. PSA Warning: Hidden fees, don't follow own rules and abnormally rude waitress.

Unless it was an honest mistake, she also charged me extra behind my back after I provided my credit card.

My table of 2 was forced to pay an 18% hidden fee (this does not include the tip, which is a separate payment). At the bottom of the menu, in tiny letters, it does state that they charge an 18% additional fee for tables of 5 guests or more. This is their own rule. As aforementioned, I was charged with this hidden fee even though we were a table of only 2 guests. After I brought up the service fee issue, the waitress lashed out at my table and told us to eat at fast food places instead. Note that this particular waitress was unfriendly from the beginning. Next, she alarmingly charged me extra without telling me after I gave her my credit card to pay the tab. To do that with my credit card is not only shady but also untrustworthy. Maybe this was just a mistake on her part? Judging from the other reviews, this waitress seems to be on a mean streak.
