I was craving some pan de muerto so i decided to go to the mission to buy some. My intent was to go to another bakery, but when I got there I realized they were cash only and I didn't have any cash on me. I was in a bit of a hurry, and although I had already tried La Victoria when I first moved to San Francisco and didn't like it, I figured it might have been a fluke, so I decided to try it again. I bought a pan de muerto, a nuez(a bread that resembles the shape of a walnut), an elote(one that looks like corn), and an alfajor. It was all about 10 dollars. As soon as I left the bakery, I tried the nuez and the elote, and while the flavors were good, they were dry and tasted a bit stale. Full disclosure, I did not try the pan de muerto and the alfajor until two days later, but when I tried them, they were also stale AND the flavors were not there. I will say I have high standards when it comes to pan dulce (I grew up in Mexico eating pan dulce with my family) but even then, I would expect more freshness and better flavor to give this bakery a higher rating).
