Turning ice cream into rolled confections like frozen Pepperidge Farms Pirouettes wasn’t a novelty that drew me in until I saw “Food Flirts”, a short-lived PBS series that featured two cute-as-button octogenarian sisters discovering food they never tried before. One episode focused on Thai rolled ice cream, and the staff on the show was very sweet and accommodating to the cherubic siblings.
That wasn’t close to the experience I had here on my visit last week to this Chinatown ice cream shop. Now I can appreciate a shop willing to specialize in rolled ice cream. Judging from the number of families in here, the throngs of tourists were clearly drawn to it as well. When I was trying to decide what to order, I would describe the service as less than friendly. I couldn’t tell whether the staff was feeling overwhelmed by the abundance of tourists or being just indifferent.
There was quite a menu to peruse, eighteen flavor combos I believe, and after a quick scan, I went with the $11.50 Lychee & Logan even though I didn't even know what Logan was. I was guessing it had something to do with berries but didn't really taste them in the mix. The lychee, however, was present and accounted for, and at the end of the cup, it didn't really matter. Read moreThe staff here are amazing and kind!!! I fell at the intersection near their ice cream shop. I hurt my ankle pretty badly and I cut my toe. I couldn't walk far so I waited at their curbside barstools while my friend went and got the car. The staff saw that I was bleeding and asked if I wanted a bandaid. When they came back outside they had hydrogen peroxide, bandaids, gloves, and other first aid supplies and selflessly cleaned up my cut for me. I was so touched by their kindness I started crying because I was so grateful. I wasn't able to repay them at the moment, so I thought the least I could do is tell my little story and say a huge thank you here in the reviews! To the staff at Magical Ice Cream: Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! I will never forget your kindness when I think of my San...
Read moreCame here because of the new years parade. I would not be returning. Owner drops a cup on the food, so he picks it up and goes quickly rinse the inside of the cup with water. Soon, he puts it back for reuse. Since there was a big event in Chinatown, the line was long. They could have gave people in line, the menu or you know what, post the menu on the wall. Since it was busy, the owner went outside to smoke, and allowed the employees to move like snails. The cashier used the same gloves to handle cash as he handled the ice cream Finally, the boba drinks I ordered. The boba was old and stale. The drink...
