Based on the reviews, I wanted to like this place, but my experience was less than ideal. Maybe it was the time that I came, but I won't be coming back.
I walked in and ordered a sandwich and a small salad to go. The guy at the counter said it would be 20 minutes, which was fine, as food made to order is a lot better than stuff that's been under a heat lamp. The time it took to actually get it was enough to walk a block and a half, buy a drink from a convenience store, come back, and still wait another 10+ minutes. That in and of itself wouldn't have been much of an issue, ordinarily. But...
While I was waiting, I noticed that the guy making my and others' orders touched, by my count, at least 5 different surfaces (food, earbuds that were in his ears, oven handles, plastic bags, knife handle) with no gloves and without ever washing his hands. But I was ravenous and in no mood to argue with anyone. I hope I don't get salmonella, E. coli, or hepatitis.
As for my order itself, the salad was good. The sandwich, on the other hand, was overcooked-to-burnt. Maybe 2/3 of it was edible; the last third was hard and tasted charred.
If nothing else, it was a reminder that it's cheaper and safer to cook than it is to go out. Before tip, it was $16.36 for 2/3 of an overcooked sandwich and a small salad with a packet of no-fat dressing (no choice,...
Read moreThe owner will blatantly pick out the worst piece of pizza he has in the window for people he THINKS are paying with EBT. When I first started going there, I’d get decent slices until the first time I paid with EBT. Since then I’ve been getting the burnt corner pieces of the OLD pizza in the window when the people before me get fresh slices. I continued going, usually multiple times a week, just giving him the benefit of the doubt, but it has continued to be the case every time I go in there. I just said something about it to him, and left with a heat lamp burnt middle piece of the old pie instead of the burnt corner piece he initially grabbed like he always does. Mind you, there are 2 more of the same pizzas in the window that both have slices sold from them. Happens every time and it’s my last time going in there. He just lost a...
Read moreA prime location for some easy drunchie food, Mustafio's sign outside glowed and enticed me to go inside for a slice of pizza. After such a fun night, I didn't really care much for gourmet (plus, there's no gourmet at 12am anyway..) so I readily stepped inside the simple-looking pizza shop. Despite its appearances, Mustafio's menu is extensive... a variety of pizzas and desserts and other Italian dishes are available for ordering. However at the time we went, there weren't a whole lot of selection left for slices. Priced at around $4-$5, I thought that was pricey for the size of the pizza, and the pizza wasn't really that toasty either... However, I'd be willing to give Mustafio's another shot if I am in the area again, maybe get a calzone next time, or hopefully they'll have a better selection for us drunk zombies looking for a...
