Read moreSan Francisco's rooftop scene is legendary, and Shelby's Rooftop at the Canopy by Hilton definitely lives up to the hype. Perched on the 12th floor, this lounge offers stunning panoramic views of the city and a vibrant atmosphere that's perfect for a night out.
The first thing you'll notice is the ambiance. Shelby's Rooftop strikes a perfect balance between lively and chic. It's definitely buzzing, so make reservations in advance to secure your spot. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and while they have heaters for the outdoor area, they weren't the most effective on my visit. So, a recommendation – bring a jacket or layer up, especially if you plan on spending most of your time outside.
I opted for their house-aged old fashioned, and it was fantastic. The combination of Dickel 8 Bourbon, maple syrup, amaretto, bitters, and smoked oak created a beautifully balanced and flavorful drink. Highly recommend it!
For food, I tried the prosciutto and burrata flatbread. The candied walnuts added a touch of sweetness that perfectly complemented the salty prosciutto, and the house-made rosemary and sea salt flatbread was a delicious base. Everything on the plate worked together perfectly.
Service at Shelby's Rooftop was attentive without being overbearing. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and drinks and made sure we had a great experience.

Read moreShelby Rooftop in San Francisco boasts stunning views of the city that truly take your breath away. The ambiance and skyline backdrop make it an attractive spot for a night out or a special occasion. However, the experience falls flat when it comes to the food and drinks, which unfortunately don’t live up to the high prices.
We started with the Kumamoto Oysters, expecting fresh, chilled perfection. While they were served on ice, the oysters weren’t cold enough, and they lacked the fresh, briny taste that should come standard with such a premium item. It was disappointing, especially given the high expectations set by the setting.
For drinks, we tried two Rick Ruben cocktails, which were sweet and delicious but noticeably lacking in alcohol. At $22 per drink, I was expecting something more balanced and with a stronger presence of alcohol. Instead, they felt more like overly priced mocktails.
The prices at Shelby Rooftop simply don’t match the quality of the food and beverages. While the view is undeniably beautiful, the lackluster offerings make it hard to justify a return visit. If you’re only in it for the ambiance and don’t mind overpaying for average food and drinks, this might be worth a try. Otherwise, I’d suggest enjoying the view...
