Right off the bat, Square Pie Guys is for sure one of the best new pizza establishments that have managed to grace San Francisco with their existence. Easily one of the best if not the best Square style focused spot I have personally experienced so far which to be fair is about 60% of them so there's a chance this review could change in that maybe someone else is actually better at the Detroit Style but so far Square Pie Guys are the reigning defending title holders of the position of Best Detroit Pie in the San Francisco from my self appointed position of authority on both Pizza and San Francisco.
It is a nice pie that will make anyone a believer in Detroit Pizza besides those who refuse to have any love for anything besides thin slices. I personally needed some convincing earlier in life but since I know for a fact Chicago Pizza is incredible it was possible for the Detroit Style to take hold of me one day. Square Pie Guys is high quality and made by people who really care about pizza, who really have passion for pizza and respect pizza. Talks with some of the guys who run, own and operate this place showed me that. The only sad thing about Square Pie Guys is that their only true comrades in the City might be Empire Pizza, the reigning defending champions of New York Style thin. It's sad because these two are so alone in the Pizza game holding the bar so high and other places don't realize it as reflected in the product they are producing.
Thanks to two places having the integrity and respect and knowledge of Pizza this place and Empire Pizza have, not only is SoMa well taken care of for pizza, but so is the whole City in reality. Big ups and respect to Square Pie Guys for also having their own branding game and having a custom box and bag. As a man who is a Devotee of Pizza, I rest better at night knowing Square Pie Guys exist. As a San Francisco Native, I can relax knowing my City has responsible men and women of Pizza watching over...
Read moreThis place had very friendly staff and a great atmosphere. I loved my conversation with the service attendant and he made things seem very understanding and warming.
I was disappointed in my cheesy bread as it was overcooked and more along the lines of crispy bread. I thought this was not good considering there was only me and another guest in the establishment. I was extra disappointed when the guest who ordered pizza and wings 5 mins after me go their food 5 mins before me. It was a fairly long wait for my food. Because my food was overcooked, simple, and the couple received their food before mine I am taking away 3 stars. I felt that was a bit unacceptable considering the low level of traffic and cost of food. I was overall disappointed and wish I did not eat here and instead went to SF pizza down the street that does things right. I will be back again to inform the manager of my experience. The wings were pricy but they were decent in my opinion. Maybe Cheesy bread was not their dish they traditionally make, but this trip was an expensive fail. It did not look like the pictures I saw online. Please see pictures of cheesy bread below.
Additionally, the have those QR menu which is always annoying to me. The couple who came was from overseas and could not get the QR thing working. This also adds to 2 star rating I am giving.
Note: if you have less customers you need to step it up. Get rid of QR code. The only 2 stars goes to the Service, not the food. I’m unsure if I was treated bad because I did not tip on my togo food. I didn’t tip because there was already a upcharge on my ticket that was going toward employee...
Read moreFirst time buying and eating from Square Pie Guys and it was INCREDIBLE. If you’re not able to tell from the name, Square Pie Guys sells “square shaped pizzas.” It’s called Detroit Style, because it is the perfect pan pizza. Baked in pans originally used to carry automotive parts (hence the “Detroit” connection.) The pizza has a crunchy bottom, fluffy middle, and crispy cheesy edge. Square Pie Guys offer two (2) pizza sizes, 6x6 and 8x10. A personal size (6x6” pan) is offered during lunch hours (M - F 11:30am - 2pm). To put that into round pizza perspective that’d be about a 8” round for the personal pans and about a 11” round pizza for the large pans. Having never had “Detroit style pizza” before I can truly say that I was pleasantly surprised. The soft yet thick pan crust, the quality of the cheese, and perfectly curled pepperonis truly set this pizza place apart from their competitors. I ordered two (2) pepperoni pizzas and one cheeses bread (see pictures). The pizzas were cooked to perfection and with so many options to choose from, I want to try everything on the menu. Despite COVID - 19 altering their ability to allow for pizza alterations, the quality of the food and service was fantastic. An additional thing I like is the pizza box. It’s really creative and I like the design. You have to try...
