My hubby found out that the subway place closed down right across the street from the San Jose Convention Center where he sometimes work and a Mexican Empanada spot opened up. I googled it I asked him to check it out. He brought home a variety of Empanadas for me to try and I can say I loooove their crust. The crust for the veggie empanadas is different than the savory ones and the crust for the dessert tastes like a croissant pie (if that makes sense).
I had the Tinga Empanada (chicken) which has a kick to it (spicy) it was flavorful, Beef Empanada (ground beef, potatoes and onions) is like a lumpia but in an Empanada, Mushrooms w/ cheese (had some diced tomatoes) tasted like a pizza w/o meat... all were yummy and savory. I love chocolate so for the Nutella Empanada 🥟 yaaaaassss, that was everything!! I've had Filipino empanadas but I gotta say, I love Casa Guzmania's empanadas I can eat them all day and it would be great to order a party pan if you don't want to cook for a potluck party (just a suggestion).
I didn't get to try the Conchinita, Mole or sausage w/ cheese (pork) and Apple Empanada because my hubby ate it (which of course he should since he's at work and gotta eat too 😆) Sharing is caring... I'm already knowing they were good because he told me so (and I believe it lol). The best part of it is that you can just grab n go especially when you're hungry, got a 30min lunch and in a rush. All I know If ever he goes out there again for work I'll definitely have...
Read moreFood can sometimes transport you back to certain memories and experiences. Casa Guzmania just accomplished this today. It took me back to Mexico City, even the street is loud, but not as busy(market street). The flavors are those which I have encountered in the past, and in all honesty this time around I just stuck to my traditional palette, 1-3(cochinita, mole, carne con papa) and rajas which is on the vegetarian menu. The flavors in the filling are spot on. I even took my mom and she said they are more homemade, les bread and more filling, that is my perfect balance, and that said the breading is tasty. I am bit more of a mole verde kinda a person, but without taking away from this one, which in its category is delicious. All the other ones are fenomenal from my humble opinion. Did I mention the salsas, they are great but be warned that they might be a bit spicy for some people. I believe little by little this place will start building character, because flavors it has, and I am looking to try other empanadas that are outside of my regular comfort zone. At $14 for two empanadas (that is my filling limit) I will surely make this place a regular particularly at...
Read moreThis place is so good. So good! I took a couple of friends here on a whim, and we tried and shared a variety of empanadas, and got a few cups of coffee, and were made immensely happy by how good they all were.
I can personally recommend the chicken mole, the cochinita pibil, the beef and potato, and the Nutella, as I tried a bit of each of these.
We spent the whole weekend we were near by thinking about going back, but not quite managing it. Literally, we agreed our one regret was not going back to try more. We'll for sure hit them up again...
