This is the worst sushi restaurant ever we have visited around Georgia. A NO for your consideration to visit this restaurant.
It was our anniversary so my loved one wanted to create something special for us. The restaurant was chosen with a reservation of Omakase for 2 person. But the bad experience ruined our night. We believe we are deceived by this restaurant's marketing strategies.
As we've learned from previous omakase restaurants, customer will be seated close to the chef, interaction happens when the chef prepares the food. This is part of what makes omakase special. However, there is no such thing during our dining at this restaurant. We were seated at the last table in the row, by the window. Under the dim light, and noise, the server brought the food in and began speaking out names of each sushi from left to right, right to left. That's it! If we don't order omakase, what else can we - your customers hear from your server and service?
Portion: Small servings. We're still hungry after leaving the restaurant. They were so small that we didn't have a chance to appreciate the flavor of the fish that they are proud of.
We ate sushi with oiled wasabi and pepper: Instead of soy sauce, they served a little bowl of oiled pepper and wasabi. To me, it's just chopped long green pepper and wasabi stir-fried in oil with a little salt and sugar. It was introduced to improve sushi flavor. We put the oil on the top of the sushi and eat. So, after all, we can only taste the oil in sushi. Yes, with omakase, the customer trusts the chef. However, we were betrayed! The chef's lack of nutrition knowledge is reflected in this "creative" oil bowl. Gastric issues caused by a combination of oil, strong spices, and raw food. Moreover, when serving such oily food with ice water, both the chef and the restaurant owners demonstrate a lack of knowledge of the Asian cultural aspects of ying and yang.
It took us nearly 2 hours for such Omakase course. We spent our time just to wait for dishes to be served. It seemed forever to us, I was so hungry that I ate the oil wasabi instead. And to my surprise, when we asked for another wasabi bowl, the server said that it will be extra charged. I did not remember exactly, it was around $2.5 or $3 for that little bowl. We were still ok with it.
After we completed the tiny matcha ice cream, we received our receipt and found something wrong. Our server and chef didn't even realize they had missed one of the dishes. They charged us the full price. In their dim light restaurant, we had to read the receipt and menu again to assist them figure out what was missing. Ridiculously, we closed out everything with a matcha ice cream, but when they found out their mistake, they brought out the missing dish, and we, their customers must start over our night, wasted our time once more!
We left the restaurant with bad experience ever on our...
Read moreUpdate: I went back to Norifish with a friend and completely changed my opinion of this place. We ordered the premium omakase (the most expensive offering on the menu) and each ordered two cocktails and they kicked us out after 2 hours. I know this is common in the US but at this price point I find that extremely offensive and shocking. We spent a ridiculous amount of money and we can't sit and enjoy the meal and our drinks? How about you don't essentially offer a tasting menu of 9 courses and ask us if we'd like another drink if you don't intend to allow us to take our time to finish either. My friend had exactly the same impression and although the food was very good as usual, this experience just left a really bad taste in our mouth. It genuinely felt painful paying the bill and tipping as we were being forced out of the restaurant and I knew at that point that they just lost a loyal customer. I can no longer recommend this place. My suggestion to the restaurant would be to have people book the omakase in advance and making the reservation for 3 hours minimum if you'd really like to have a time frame for turning over tables.
I'm going to try to find the words to explain how incredible this restaurant is. First of all, I love good food. I have been to countless Michelin starred restaurants all around the world and I really appreciate quality ingredients and creative dishes, as well as excellent service. NoriFish totally exceeds expectations on all of those points. My brother had been here twice and my brother also has been to many Michelin starred restaurants, particularly in Asia, and he dragged me here promising an excellent culinary experience, and I was totally blown away. The food was just spectacular. My brother and I agreed that some of the best bites of food we've ever had was at this restaurant. We had the omakase premium tasting menu for $150 and I can tell you that the actual price for the value would be AT LEAST twice that. Even the cocktails were delicious and balanced. The service was also top notch. The people working here are friendly, funny, and extremely service oriented. They strike the perfect balance of being professional and sharp while retaining a friendly, down to earth atmosphere. I really cannot recommend this place enough. Although I live in Chicago, I will keep returning as much as I can when I am in Atlanta because I know once they receive their Michelin star, the prices will increase significantly to match the actual value of their...
Read moreThis place is awesome. They handled my food allergies like absolute champs. (I'm allergic to seseme seeds, avocados, and cucumbers.... yeah... im that much of a nightmare) They helped guide me through the menu patiently and provide explanation of substitutions that could be made and how it would affect the flavor of their vision. (My words, not theirs. They weren't pretentious.) I got there an hour before closing... if I knew the culinary adventure it was going to be, I would have budgeted for 1.5 to 2 hours to be honest. Not because they take a long time, but because the food is delicious enough you'd want to take your time.
I got the toast... because IG said get the toast. And the toast was delicious. I did the petite omikazi menu and it really hit the spot when starting with the appetizer. Every piece had its own distinct seasoning that is perfect for each type of fish. Btw, don't bother with soy sauce, you won't need it at all. Also... the Wasabi is a pickled wasabi... I was legit eating it straight between each piece it that good. In the second course... the ceviche was the star. I'm sure the sashimi or the salad was supposed to be... but that ceviche. I'd probably go back just for that alone if I ever come back into town.
I'd say my only gripe was that half way through my meal they started cleaning up for the night. And though that's fine and I totally get it since it was 35ish minutes before closing... the cleaning supply smell kind of messed with how I tasted my food. And the sound of chairs squaking across the floor and the mops going was not the ambiance I was going for. For the price.... ehhhh it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. However, it wasn't enough to drop a star.
Overall, if I'm ever in Georgia again, I'll definitely come back. (Also, homie is from near my hometown... always have...
