Great spot and looking forward to returning! The only reason for 4 stars was that they have some kinks to work out with the breakfast buffet, but overall, great place! The buffet food was good, the pozole was a highlight for me, and I loved the green salsa from the salsa bar. Mimosas were great, not too orange juice heavy, perfect balance and garnished with tasty strawberry slices. I ended up having 4, so I definitely got my money's worth. Most places in SB charge $15 for one mimosa, so this was a steal.
We adored the mariachi band, they were so fun and sounded amazing. A little loud with the horns, but I was personally into it. The singer interacted with our table and was very charming!
Jessica checked us out and gave us some background on the restaurant. I love that it is woman owned and that they donate proceeds to mental health services.
Feedback on things to improve: it was a little confusing when we were first sat down, we weren't sure how the buffet or bottomless mimosas worked. We ended up going up to the bar to get drinks a few times. Just some better direction on arrival would have helped. Also the buffet platter covers were hard to keep open while serving, noticed later in our dining time they resolved that, so I think the staff caught on. Finally, the mariachi band was great, but the trumpets were very loud. It was okay for me, but I could see others not loving it, maybe they...
Read moreCafé La Fonda is a cute and small eatery located across the street from Santa Barbara‘s courthouse’s beautiful sunken gardens. The service is exceptional and their philanthropic endeavors beg you to try them.
A small group gathered together for the weekend AYCE breakfast buffet, and free flow mimosa or margarita. The service was fantastic and the view of the courthouse was great as we sat on the front porch and enjoyed the company.
The food offerings or what I expect of sweet pastries, fresh fruit, bacon, enchilada casserole, Menudo, posole, pork, verde, and more. It’s difficult to judge food quality when all you’re eating is the buffet, but I did enjoy the Menudo and the posole. The rest not so much.
I urge you to come by and taste for yourself outside of the buffet and learn more about how they get back to the community of Santa Barbara, providing opportunity for their staff.
As many have written on the weekends, they have a mariachi band. Great to have live music, but it’s too loud. We were yelling over the music sitting at the same table just to communicate. For that I would also skip the weekend buffet.
I’d like to come back and try something else off the menu as it does look authentic and I’m proud to support them. I just don’t...
Read moreJust had breakfast there. My wife had the brunch buffet and all you can drink for $47. If you are hungry and thirsty, it is probably worth it. The food was very good, and so is the service. I ordered the Chile Chile is which were excellent. Two problems with this place are that there is no half and half that comes with your coffee, rather they use those little Coffee-mate creamer cups, and the second is that they had a Mariachi band playing, which was pretty cool, but they had amplified music that was way too loud. It was just ridiculous. You needed to yell to be heard by your tablemates at a very small table. If the music had been just acoustic, it would have been perfect. The only reason I could think of for them to do that was because they want to be heard in a four block radius to attract customers so they can go deaf...
