Do you know after working in restaurants for more than 30 years? I would absolutely understand that anytime a new restaurant opens up. It’s going to have its issues and I understand this. Unfortunately, this was my first time trying this location and trying its food and I have to say that before I even walked out the door had a horrible experience and the manager basically did nothing at all to make it better. I walked in at 6 o’clock and yes, they had a small rush and I ordered at the cashier. Nothing special just three items off the menu and it took more than 40+ minutes to get my food. meanwhile, I watched as close to 14 people who ordered before me come in get their food and leave and or get their food and eat meanwhile, I was standing there waiting for my order. I had to ask three times where my order was, and when the order first arrived, the girl who brought it to me brought the wrong order which thankfully I caught before I even left the door. That being said after that I had to wait almost another 10 minutes for my food to finally arrive and after 45 minutes, it was finally packaged up, handed to me. The manager didn’t even bother to do or say anything extra to try and make this experience better. If this is the experience that this location is giving unfortunately I don’t think I’m going to give it a second try even if the food were phenomenal. Unfortunately, being in customer service for as many years as I have, I understand that things like this will happen, but you know what this is not the way that you make a loyal customer. I would highly, recommend that people maybe think twice because if you’re going to go to this location unless you are really willing to sit there waiting for fast food to take 45 minutes you might want...
Read moreFirst and sadly my last time visiting Bonchon. It sucks that they have whitewashed the flavors so much just because it's located in a suburban American city.
We stopped by for a late lunch and ordered the small drumsticks with yangnyeom, chicken strips with soy garlic, and tteokbokki, which totalled $43 or so.
Everything came out fast which was nice.
The drumsticks are HUGE. You rearely see drumsticks that size so it was nice and even the small was a good amount to share. They are fried really well and get so crispy, while the meat is juicy, so that was definitely the best part. The flavor, better than the soy garlic, was still fairly mild. You didn't get that bold, powerful flavoring like you find at most korean fried chicken spots. So that was a let down.
The chicken strips were a total fail. As you can see in my picture - how are those strips? They're more like oblong chicken patties. They weren't crispy, not hot, and hardly any flavor. You had a mild scent of garlic and that's about it.
The tteokbokki was very disappointing as well. It wasn't hot and the cheese wasn't even melted. There were more fishcakes than rice cakes, and the sauce was not spicy at all. It was pretty bland. And it was filled with grilled onions and peppers. The texture of the rice cakes were decent, not too chewy and had a good bite.
Overally, this just isn't it and I'll stick to Koreatown for the...
Read moreI give this place 4.5 stars. I gave the service 3 stars because I stood at the counter for a good 10 minutes before anyone came out to greet me. And when they did they asked me if I needed more time. Which I didn’t because I was very ready.
The inside is your basic fast food style interior. There are booths to the left, tables and chairs in the middle and counters in front of the windows. Once seated you can’t really see outside unless you’re at the counter because of all the signage on the windows. They also have 2 tvs synchronously playing K-pop videos. It’s not too loud though so you can still carry a conversation.
You order at the counter and the payment machine has one of those screens that ask for a tip.
I ordered the chicken sandwich with seasoned fries. The seasoning is $1 extra which I didn’t notice if it was on the menu board or not. And I didn’t ask. There is a self serve soda machine next to the condiments and napkin dispenser. When your order is ready they bring it out to you.
Initially I thought they were kind of skimpy on the fries given the extra dollar. However the sandwich had two very large chicken strips protruding out of the back end which kind of made up for it. And it was good! The yangmeon sauce was delicious! Just the right amount of...
