If I could leave zero stars I would. Went in with my mother around 1pm on 4/17/25. We were staying at the Hotel St. Francis and were just looking to have a glass of wine. We walked in and we were not acknowledged for a few moments after the bald guy with a beard and glasses behind the bar glanced at us and quickly looked away to finish closing out someone at the bar (which is fine but it would have been nice for him to say something to acknowledge our existence like “I’ll be right with you”). When he finally found the time for us, he asked “what can I do for you?” as if we had accidentally wandered. From that moment, we were uncomfortable, as he seemed to be emanating an air of superiority. My mother said we were hoping to have a glass of wine and he asked us if we wanted a reservation later. Again, making us feel like they didn’t feel like they didn’t want to help us. When we expressed we wanted to sit now they asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside and when we expressed we wanted to sit outside we chose our table and the pretentious guy behind the bar came out with menus and told us he would bring us waters. About 10-15 minutes later, we had no water and I saw the one “waitress” look out the door after we had decided and had our menus closed, but she quickly retreated away from the door. There was one other table out on the patio and when she finally came out about 20-25 min after we were seated, she made a beeline to the table that was finishing up. She spent 2-3 minutes bullshitting with them after they indicated that they were done and after she cleared their glasses she did not even acknowledge us as she returned inside. At that point, we got the message that they had been trying to send us since we walked in the door, they did not want us there. We walked out and said nothing to anyone (but we’d like to offer our sincerest condolences for inconveniencing them by trying to patronize the establishment that they are being paid to work at). There were plenty of empty tables and seats. We immediately went back into the lobby to inquire if the tasting room was operated by the same operator as the hotel and they informed us it was independently operated and we expressed our discontent to the front desk regardless because the experience was so vastly different from those we had so far with the hotel staff and those at the hotel bar, Secreto or actually anywhere else in Santa Fe. I don’t know who the staff at this place think they are but this was the worst service I’ve experienced anywhere in Santa Fe. Note to management - just because people are dressed casually, doesn’t mean that you have a license to treat them poorly OR that they don’t have any...
Read moreMy husband and i walked in to the Gruet tasting room at the St. Francis around noon on Thursday May 1 and were immediately greeted by a lovely and lively young woman named Eileen. Our very first visit she guided us on the menu which was well laid out and we selected our tasting flights. I chose a sparkling flight and husband selected red still wine flight. We learned about the winemaker and also the wines we tasted. Eileen was fun and we had great conversation about wine and food. The Tasting Room has an outdoor area that is quaint and pretty and we actually had a reservation there for that evening but the inside was nice and they had room so we cancelled the evening and stayed a while that afternoon. The tasting and wines we selected were a delight. I had only tasted the Gruet blanc de blanc before so having several more to try was perfect and all tasted like heaven to me. Even the reds were yummy. We couldn’t decide what to ship home so we came back on Sunday May 4th. Luckily Eileen was there to help. Thank you Eileen and staff at Gruet for a wonderful experience and introduction to some...
Read more5 stars for the great experience and price points at the tasting room. 1 star for incomplete/misleading information and product availability for the wine club membership.
The wines included in the still wine flight were some of the best I've had especially at this price point. I signed up for the Custom Case Club after the server informed us that instead of 2 full cases per year obligated under the membership, we could do "2 half cases". Seemed like a good move and a more manageable amount of wine. Specifically, we were told that the same wines were available online as the ones in the tasting room. When I looked later online, I couldn't find any half cases, so I reached out by email. Crickets for 2 weeks, but no surprise, these types of establishments often do not respond well to emails. When I called, turns out there's no such thing as half cases, only half bottles, and none of the still wines were sold in half bottles, only 3 sparkling wines. ...Which were marked mere $3-4 off of the full...
