Plaza Cafe Southside — Restaurant in Santa Fe

We looked at a lot of place to eat dinner as we are from out of town. This place came up and we thought wow this place has great reviews. So we went. While the prices seemed high we thought well it will probably be worth it. In the food category I would agree. Very good food and cool atmosphere. This is where the other reviews are correct. Our server was probably one of the worst. We would have mentioned him by name, but he didn’t introduce himself. There was no name tag, and there was no name on our receipt. We wouldn’t return based on this service.

The restaurant wasn’t very busy. He had three tables, including ours. He had a hard time remembering our drinks. If this is a problem, he should write it down. I’d prefer it to just be right, rather than telling him twice.

When our food was brought out, he handed everyone the wrong dishes. He could have asked. He asked if we needed anything, before we could say we would like another round, he was gone. We didn’t see him until we paid the bill.

We had four people, but only two sets of silverware. So, we had to go get our own. We would have asked, but no one was around. We finished our meal, and still, no one was around. I started a timer because it was laughable that no one was checking on us.

We could have ordered three rounds of drinks if we were served well. Our server finally came back, and we just wanted the check. We almost asked what his deal was but we didn’t want to ruin a fun day we had. He handed us a phone and walked away. We figured out how to close our tab. The machine had the audacity to ask for a 30% tip. It’s laughable. He’s lucky we tipped at all.

Management, I’d be happy to provide additional details to help you identify the employee and effectively train them to improve their performance.

Plaza Southside has been a staple for our family since moving here, however, this past year, service quality (in terms of getting drinks, orders, food) has gone down drastically. Regardless if the place is packed or empty, the service has been the same.

I usually give a restaurant 3 strikes before giving them a ban and unfortunately, today was Plaza's 3rd strike.

11:34 am Arrival - friendly front desk, promptly seated. Noticed that the place is pretty busy. Menus delivered, drink orders taken, service is quick and fast.

Approx. 11:44am - Food order taken.

Approx. 12:00pm - Server checks in on us, refills water and coffee. Food arrives at another table that sat down after us.

Approx. 12:15pm - Server checks in on us, refills water and coffee. Food arrives at another table that sat down after us.

Approx. 12:30pm - Server checks in on us, refills water and coffee. Table next to us (whom I am acquainted with, jokingly offers their green chili soup to tide us over).

12:45pm - Server checks in on us, refills water and coffee and apologizes that the kitchen is busy and food is arriving.

12:47pm - Food finally arrives.

1 hour a 3 minutes for food to arrive. Our server was good, food was what we expected, but 1 hour and 3 minutes pretty much explains why the 3rd strike.

Hopefully management makes some systematic changes in the future....

This restaurant has the best Spicy Fish and Chips I've eaten in Santa Fe. It is always clean in the dining area and the restrooms. I really enjoy going here for the food and the atmosphere. I would've recommended this place to anyone but I'm not so sure now. I frequent this place regularly as I eat out almost exclusively.The last 6 times I've eaten there I have had a waitress named Karen for most of those times. She is unfriendly and inattentive to me. I mentioned something to her about this once and she said it was because she was tired but I feel like it happens too often. Today she took my order and never returned to the table. She was standing about ten feet from my table almost the whole time I was eating. When I was done, I got up to go wash my hands and handed here my credit card on the way past. When I came back my card and the ticket was on the table. As I finished signing it, she came by and swiped the ticket off the table and said "thank you." I said the same and then walked out. I honestly don't know if I will go back there after that kind of service because I believe a dining experiencing should be a great meal along with great service and a friendly staff.
