Pretty decent sushi place in Sarasota. Cool modern place and pleasureful atmosphere. Hamachi Chili appetizer was the best thing we ordered (A little pricy at $17). Ordered the Sushi and Sashimi combo - came with a California roll a lackluster choice. Sashimi/sushi was nicely cut and presented. Maki (rolls) were lacking some sophistication e.g. sauce or flavors to kick them up a notch. Way too much Masago (Fly Fish Egg) on top of the Rainbow Roll - it took away from the "Rainbow". A sushi place at this level of pricing should have real wasabi available. Was disappointed when asking if I could have Yellowtail cheek (Hamachi Kama) sashimi - "we don't do that" - waitress didn't not or offer to check with the chef. The busboys were hanging around the pass while customer's empty plates were stacking up on tables. Even still this place is the best sushi place I've been to so far in Sarasota County. Hoping to find a better place. Their photos shown here are better than what is served - though the food is much better than at Bushido Sushi and Fuji Sushi Hibachi Noodles in Venice. We did not order drinks and we spent about $100 plus tip. The rolls were priced right for quality and size, the sushi sashimi combo was a little high. The hostess and restaurant manager were friendly and nice. We would give them another try and we'd probably sit at the sushi bar to have direct interaction with the sushi chefs.

I have been to this place many times, and I’ve been reminded of why on my recent visit. The place is decorated in a nice modern way, with many seats having a good view of the cooks in action. It’s small, but not overwhelmingly so. The service is very fair, with the time to bring out the food being maybe slightly above average, however, appetizers like the steamed buns and edamame fill this gap fine. And we’re often checked on for refills. As for the food; although there are likely places around with more refined rolls and fresher offerings of fish, Jpan consistently delivers a high baseline at a premium price. The specialty rolls are excellent at their highest level and are well worth the price. I have taken notes on their rolls over my visits and can provide the top 3 (mostly good tempura since that’s what my family has preferred). Tokyo kiss (interesting salty flavors all around with raw with sparkly flavors being embedded within; great non tempura) Tiger (Almost a better bay roll: good crunch and good depth of flavors that all mix very nicely) Siesta (The best tempura all rounder)

Even if you think you don't like sushi, try this place and I promise you, you'll change your mind. We stopped I'm for lunch one day and I love the lunch menu as you can literally get full and ball on a budget. It's kid friendly and they even have the trainer chop sticks for those that don't have it down pack. After trying it with the kids we went back for date night and enjoyed a boat of assorted sushi. The lobster roll was my favorite and the butterfly martini was delicious. Service was great, they had a great group of staff and although our waitress was the bar tender she really made sure we were taken care of. Reasonable prices, cute spot, and clean. Restrooms were fully stocked and smelled fresh although it was later evening. We had a blast with awesome convo with the people next to us and this spot has become a family favorite.

Horrible Very rude staff Ordered gluten free, they verified it was gluten free, but they completely messed up. Insisted it was gluten free. Promised they checked everything and everything was gluten free. So we thought mistakes happen, we paid for our dinner , talked to them about importance of being careful with food allergies, they seemed to understand…We were just happy I had the machine to check for gluten so I did not even try it, otherwise i would have gotten very sick. We decided to give them another try. Came back a few days later and were met with very arrogant and rude staff. They basically kicked us out. They just said “our sushi has gluten, the hi I get says “wheat” Were not interested in talking/working with us at all. Will never come back. Either they lied to us the very first time when I explained that my allergy is very severe and they said they checked every single thing and assured us the food was safe to eat, or they lied to us now because they just did not feel like dealing with us. Regardless, this is is serious!!!!! If someone tells you they have allergy, you have to take it seriously, or be honest and mark it on the menu that you are unable to accommodate allergies, so those who have allergies will make informed decisions. Your customers trust you… People with food allergies,...

The location (their University Town Center one) is odd but plenty of parking in the rear. Disappointed to see ALL the sliding doors open which does make this place look bigger BUT not friendly for anyone with allergies. They have outdoor seating & like many other n ew restaurants they seem to think EVERYONE wants to fell like they are outside for some reason? Now: the food. Service was good but the delivery was way off from what we ordered. I ordered salmon sushi/sashimi among others & they delivered tuna? When they corrected that, the salmon that arrived was way too chewy. They served chunks rather than slices arbitrarily. I kind of felt they were using whatever pieces they had left? The dark fishy part was left on the strange pieces they gave me also. I've been eating sushi for 30 years. Pretty hard NOT to cut the salmon correctly but they found a way. I asked for a pink sauce on my hand-roll, no luck. In all, very disappointing. So much competition around : Hana in LWR, even the place in the mall is better. Heck, even Fresh Market did a better job! I expect better from JPan. This is my second...
