This location is a bit small but good. I really like the miffy collaboration! I also really liked the vanilla and peach flavors here.
Some of the flavors are really good. The tea flavors are really strong, so that might be good or bad, depending on what you are looking for (at night I was not looking for a strong tea flavor, but I would be happy for it in the afternoon). At the very least some of the flavors are just mid, but not terrible. They just didn't hit the spot at the time. At least the miffy-shaped ice cream was really cute!
The soft serve was good too. I tried Pandan and Mango I think. The Mango flavor was nice and sweet. The Pandan was good too, but not as sweet as I thought it would be. I think that's a good thing because people don't like it as sweet or artificial tasting. Although that night I was really looking for more sweet flavors, and the Pandan didn't hit it for me atm, I can say its pretty solid quality (I can say this because I tried other desserts with Pandan extract, and they have an interesting artificial taste to them. That artificial taste was not there). So still A+.
But man, their waffle cones are really good! I tried the midnight vanilla and the orange creamcicle cones. The midnight vanilla was great, although I forgot exactly how it tasted like (cause I was more focused on the peach flavored ice cream with it, which was amazing!) The orange creamcile one really tasted like an orange cream ice cream put into a cone.
Yeah, when I went here, I got two cones of ice cream and one cone of soft serve đ
I bought a pint from here and found that it melted relatively quickly. Also, the pint ice cream is not as creamy as maybe some other places that I had in California, like Salt and Straw, Smitten's or Humphry Slocombe. I would come here mainly for the unique flavors. Try the Hokkaido Brown Sugar or the Chinese Almond Cookie flavors. Those are some of my favorite!
I didn't rate for atmosphere because although it was well designed it was small there was no wifi :(. Other Kurimu locations are bigger. But I don't want to rate them down...
Read moreI came here on Saturday at 9:00 PM. There was a HUGE line. There were 2 workers and 1 ordering screen. We were next in line by 9:25, but then the family of four in front of us had already taken 10 minutes to place their order and it didnât look like they were going to be done anytime soon, still. Not their fault, but thatâs what happened. I had a babysitter I had to relieve by 10 and I had a 30 min drive home. This was a rare date night for my husband and I. We saw it took, at the fastest, 12 minutes for someone to get their order AFTER placing it. All this to say, we had to leave at 9:25, after waiting for 20+ minutes, we didnât even get to order. It shouldnât take 30+ minutes to get ice cream of all things! I never thought Iâd have to account for 30-40 minutes for dessert at an ice cream shop. All this to say, I think they need a better process. At least 1 more ordering machine. 1-2 more. Maybe one worker handles drinks and one worker handles simple ice cream orders. The machines have SO many options for you to choose from, itâs no wonder someone can take 15 minutes to order. But maybe have two machines so if someone has a quicker order, things are not bottle necked from a more complicated larger order and food can be processed more efficiently. I was really disappointed from my experience here. I was looking forward to trying this place with my husband but just the fact I wasted 20+ minutes I donât often get with my husband standing in an ice cream shop with nothing to show for it is the main...
Read moreI've been to KURIMU a couple of times and each time, I've finished what I ordered before I got a chance to snap a photo. You can stop reading here if you want the short review.
You've probably seen KURIMU all over social media because of their colorful cones and ice creams. Instagrammable photos aside... there are so many different flavors of ice creams and drinks here that it can be a bit overwhelming.
Their Boba Shake let's you add cereal into it and I'm kicking myself for not thinking of that sooner. It's such a fantastic option. Their ice cream flavors are very punchy; they taste like their names. There's plenty of ways to customize your shakes, boba, mochi pearls, etc. They sell their ice cream in pints to go as well.
The ice creams do use some artificial colors and flavors, so if you're an Almond Mom who only eats organic and bathes in rain water, you'll want to avoid KURIMU. That being said, the first ingredient in their Roasted Sesame Ice Cream is Sesame Seeds -- that is unheard of and impressive.
You should definitely check out KURIMU. They have multiple locations throughout Chicago and the surrounding area. They are slightly pricey but it's worth...
