I'm a regular at the MOD Pizza up in Deer Park. When I saw they were opening in Schaumburg, which is both much closer to my home and a literal walk from my office, I was very happy.
I let some time go by after it opened before trying it. Since it is so close to my office, and it has been cold in the Chicago burbs, I wanted to wait for warmer weather and for the newness to wear off so the lines would be reasonable.
Yesterday I finally went. Having only enough time to go, order, then take out, I went about 11:30 so I would miss any lunch rush. While there was a line, everyone had ordered already and the line was made up of people waiting for their pizzas to be prepared. So, fortunately, I was able to order right away. Clearly, they are still in the learning period - while they servers and preparers are very nice, they still need to get the hang of the MOD Pizza processes.
Typically, I order the regular size. This is the first time I've gone to any MOD Pizza at lunch so I ordered a personal-sized pizza. I stick with dairy-free, so had a thin crust with red sauce and their Vegan (Daiya) Cheese. As always, I don't order off their menu choosing my toppings as I go. The pizza was made quickly, but their supply of vegan cheese was low so there really was not enough on it. They tried looking for more but there was none out. I did not want to wait for them to go to the back to find more so told them the amount would be fine.
As always, preparation is quick - they use wood-fired ovens (which are very hot) so only a few minutes went by before it was ready. There were plenty of toppings and it looked good. I was a little surprised to see some of the other pizzas that came out look burned around the edges so they clearly need some improvement over time.
A quick run back to my office - the pizza was still hot and just as good as what I typically get up in Deer Park. The size of the personal pizza was plenty big to leave me satisfied. Honestly, had I gotten the regular sized one I could never have finished it and would have ended up bringing home cold pizza, which I suppose would not have been so bad.
During the short time I was in the store it filled up quickly. I was fortunate to have gotten there when I did. Lunch anywhere around Woodfield Mall can be crowded. MOD appears to be up to par enough that it is becoming a favorite. My recommendation? It is good. Go, but go...
Read moreAwful!!!!!! NOT COMING BACK to this location! Food is okay but the night staff gives the worst service! Specially the two girls working here at the night shift are super rude. First when I enter they dont even notice you are there waiting to order, they mainly focusing in online orders and not customers who go there for take out or dinning in… One of them was annoyed because I asked her to please put some spices on my pizza after the pizza was done and she looked at me as if my request was annoying her so much or if as I was stupid and told me I was supposed to request that before the pizza was on the oven and I told her I didnt see it before and the other girl that prepared my pizza she disnt even asked me asked if i wanted some. I mean it was just to put some parmesan cheese and pepper on top… come on! She kept looking at me like “whatever” then went straight to whisper what happened the other girl and made faces together. Then 8 min later when the pizza was ready she forgot to add what I asked her on the pizza, or Im sure she didnt even want to add it in purpose… I was gonna ask her again but they made me feel seriously bad and shy to even ask again so I just took the pizza and left very unsatisfied. Also, while waiting fro the pizza some clients enter and where speaking spanish and they were staring at them and whispering in a rude way. Then I signed up for their new rewards where you get a free cake when you are a new customer, so I asked the guy if after paying for my order I could still get the free cake and he said to me in a bad way that i had to buy something again in order to get it. I thought he will be nicer than the girls but same, awful service I felt bad for spending my money here. On top of all this they barely put sauce on the pizza and were super slow and we were only 2 . I get people have bad days or are busy but there is no...
Read moreAvoid if you have allergies or are a vegetarian!
We went there recently and were excited for all the options. Within the first few moments of them making our pizzas (for 4 of us) we noticed an issue. They didn't have one person dedicated to various sections... meat vs. veggies etc. They don't use tongs assigned to each compartment but rather gloved hands. They reach into one container for one item then into another, cross contaminating everything. As vegetarians, I was unhappy to see her hand digging through the meat containers from the person before us, only to then dig through the veggie containers. Any meat from her hands was now in each of the individual containers. She was also bringing contaminants from those containers back into the mean containers. When I expressed concern the staff tried to work with me but didn't understand the issue. The gal offered to step back and not make our pizzas but it was now an issue of all the containers being contaminated. They offered to get us ingredients from the back but when I asked about future guests still using contaminated containers, they didn't seem to understand. While the meat thing is pretty gross, I was more concerned about allergies. For example, a person with a severe mushroom allergy coming in after us and ordering a pizza may have mushrooms in their ingredients despite not asking for mushrooms. While the staff made an attempt to fix our pizzas there was not a concern for other guests or fixing their procedures to eliminate this issue in the future. We chose to leave instead of supporting them. Their menu looks great but until their procedures are changed to ensure no cross-contamination, I can't...
