Update 7/24/2025 We had a fun time here! Kura Revolving Sushi is an authentic Japanese sushi chain restaurant.
We were greeted with a smile right away by Rydell who seated us promptly. We started right in and ordered from the touch screen plus took items from the revolving conveyor belt. We were so hungry as we came from directly from the airport.
I usually post pics and didn’t this review. What I can tell you is all the items were made fresh, served chilled or hot accordingly and everything came to the table quickly. The wasabi is fresh grated as was the daikon and ginger!
We loved everything about the place and the experience. We like that you get 3/4 pieces on small plates so you can try so many different sushi variations! A the food is natural ingredients with no sweetners or additives! You even get prizes if your table eats 15 plates (called Bikura Pon). We ended up with a cute Matcha tea drink key chain. Plus god the limited time we also received a anime print cooling towel!
Great service, really good sushi and quick service. Standouts if I had to name them would be:
Rainbow Roll Spicy Tuna Roll Tempura Shrimp Crispy Chicken Sesame Ball Chicken & Shrimp Gyoza Red bean Dragon w/ice cream Kura Revolving Sushi is a fun casual place to go check out. I read other reviews along with pictures and thought it would be fun to try. Plates start at $3.15 each. Please note that you get smaller portions and most plates are made up of 2 or 3 pieces. They have a great variety to choose from. I think it’s better to sit at the counter vs in a booth as it’s easier to do personally ordering and more fun. No matter where you sit, It’s nice to visually see the sushi before deciding to grab it off the conveyor belt. We ordered a few items off the touch screen and they came pretty fast. Ordering is automated and drinks are delivered to your table by Cody the automated waiter. All sushi was fresh and tasted just ok. My favorite was the tuna avocado roll and the nigiri Hokkaido scallop char. The deserts looked nice too. I ordered the warm red bean paste fish (donut type) with ice vanilla cream that was really good! We didn’t care for the spicy mayo condiment that you order separately for the table as it was too thick. It was nice being able to put empty plates in a shoot to prepare for more items. You get a little prize after 15 ordered plates. Plates do add up fast! Overall it’s a fun place to try once, entertaining and an interactive...

That way, it shortens your waiting time. Since then, we've been frequent visitors. It used to not take a long to but primed across the Woodfield mall, this rotational sushi bar, Kura has made its name and now have rush hours that starts as soon as 4 PM on a weekend. The other times we've stopped by, they had over an hour and a half wait.
The tip to eating here is getting on the waitlist ahead of time using their Kura app. This app also hooks you up to a reward point system for every dollar spent (10 pt for every $1) which is excellent and helps a lot if you're a frequent diner. You also get a little you ball reward that comes shooting out of the dispenser machine that sits above each table. I believe it starts at 15 plates minimum to win a prize ball. Just recently, you can also purchase a prize for about $3 if you wait for it to come around on the conveyer belt.
As for their sushi and small dishes, they do not disappoint. However, due to inflation of the pandemic, I've seen the price gone up from $2 a plate to now almost $4 a plate. Dining here feels a lot like you're eating Japanese tapas on a conveyer belt. The food is great and the conveyor belt is mesmerizing. The idea is genius in fact, but do you expect anything less from a Japanese concept? I mean it's maximum efficiency dining at its finest.
At soon as you sit down, you can get started, there is virtually no waiting time to eat. If you don't see something you want on the conveyer belt you want, you can place an order on a touchable screen where you sit and in about 5 minutes, your order shoots to your seat on another conveyer belt, almost like a bullet train for your food and it's separated from the conveyer below. Amazing!
This concept is genius and I'm surprised other hands and eyes are constantly searching for the next plate to grab. I also love that you can self-checkout using your phone so you don’t have to wait for the check. It makes getting in and out a breeze.
Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. I love the foods, very tasty but the price can get steep at almost $4 a plate and $11 for some hot plates. It will add up very quickly. Don't come here on a starving stomach. Snack first or your wallet will be hungrier than your stomach...
Read moreThe food is great, it's why you'll come here and it lives up to and probably exceeds expectations The service, atmosphere, and experience on the other hand were hit or miss. We went twice in 2 days, and the first time we had a lot of difficulty with our drink order. We waited more than 40 minutes for drinks, when we asked the first time about 15 minutes after we were seated and started eating(conveyor belt sushi, the food is available immediately) we were told they'd run out of clean cups but were washing some, 15 minutes later I was very thirsty so I got up and asked at the server station where drinks were being prepared and asked if we could at least get some waters. I was told we'd have drinks shortly, and that they were catching up. 10 minutes after that we received 2 waters and a lemonade(our original order was 2 lemonades and a water, but we'd also asked for waters for everyone at the table twice since then). We asked about the missing lemonade and waters and were told with great certainty that we'd only ordered 1 lemonade and told how to check our drink order on the table's order tablet... which clearly showed our original order of 2 lemonades and a water. 5 minutes later we had another lemonade, but despite our prior multiple requests to servers apparently we had to put in another water order via the screen before we could get 2 more cups of water. During this visit the women's restroom was also taped off with yellow caution tape.
The following day, drink service was faster, and the women's bathroom was open again.
As for atmosphere, the restaurant is rather loud, they really pack people in, and the drink delivery robots and table tablets (for ordering, plate tracking, payment, and "entertainment") all just add to the noise of a densely packed space. The "entertainment" consists of every 5 empty plates deposited a short video plays telling you to help the restaurant mascot by inserting plates. every 3rd time a video plays the tablet dispenses a capsule containing a small prize(stickers, keychain, or cord strap). kids might like it, but it's...
