Read moreWe were craving Dim Sum but didn’t want to drive far, so we decided to check out Chef J Dim Sum & Chinese Bistro after seeing some positive reviews online.
When we arrived, the nearly empty parking lot made us a bit skeptical about the restaurant's popularity. We noticed a cardboard sign by the entrance advertising the day’s specials, with “Js + landmade dim sum” catching our eye. The term “landmade” piqued our curiosity, so we decided to give it a try despite our initial hesitation.
Inside, there was no one to greet us at first, but a sign instructed us to wait to be seated. After a few minutes, someone finally appeared and told us we could sit anywhere we liked. The interior had more of an American Chinese food vibe than the authentic experience we were hoping for.
Despite the initial impressions, we explored the two available menus—one for lunch specials and the other for dim sum. We ordered J’s signature fried rice, Shumai, sticky rice, and pan-fried pork dumplings. While we expected the dim sum to take some time, the fried rice took a bit longer than anticipated. To add to our concern, a loud sneeze from the kitchen made us worry about the cleanliness of our food.
Despite these initial doubts, we were pleasantly surprised. The signature fried rice was flavorful and generously packed with chicken, shrimp, and sweet corn. The dim sum that followed looked and tasted authentic, with each piece appearing handmade and uniquely shaped.
So, the takeaway here: don’t judge a restaurant by its parking lot or cardboard sign. Chef J Dim Sum & Chinese Bistro may not have the most impressive exterior, but if you’re in the area and craving Dim Sum, it’s definitely...
Read moreWent here because Yelp showed this place as hot and new! Instead of hot and new it should have been horrid and inedible. We sat down waiting for a clean booth, and when our table was ready, it was amazingly dirty... I had to ask for menus, response was, “oh yeah!” We were served their complimentary won ton chips with sweet and sour sauce. We both took one bite and it was clear the chips tasted like greasy cardboard and the sweet and sour sauce was rancid. We asked one of the waiters to take it away and ask the chef to check the sauce. Instead of an apology for how bad this was, we were told well this is free... ... Well This experience should be interesting... The food came out and despite us being there at 8 pm, it was empty so the food should be fresh and more attention to quality. NOPE! Food was bland, chicken was over cooked and neither of us wanted to finish, and one of us wasn’t even asked if we were still working on the plate, like they already knew we were eating bad food... The only positive thing is the rice which was served in such a large quantity that it could have fed a table of 8 easily for just the two of us. Felt like a waste to leave it but we lost our appetite. They should charge more, stop giving out “well it’s free” food and portion better so they can serve better food. Unfortunately I had to pay for this dinner because I lost a pinball game but at least my company was entertaining. We will...
