My wife and I actually had our first date (in 1980) in this establishment before it was The Beverly. Normally we go to Kona Grill for food and then Talking Stick for dancing on Saturday nights but because Talking Stick has been temporarily closed due to severe storm damage (Aug of 18) we decided walk around old town Scottsdale a bit and look around. We were excited to see The Beverly was still there although the name was now different, the inside still looked strikingly similar.
The atmosphere is nice and cozy, the bartenders and servers are also very nice and helpful which really helps the appeal while you're there. There were four of us and we got there for happy hour (6 to 8pm) at around 6:30pm. We ordered drinks and I had some wine and 3 of us had about 2 drinks each, one had 3 drinks.
The selection of food on the menu was less than I was hoping for. There was no steaks, bass, salmon or halibut offered on the menu, the best you could have if you happen to be hungry is the Tilapia and a couple chicken plates. For food we ordered a Tilapia and my wife and I each had a hamburger with truffle fries and also shared a dinner salad. The 4th person in our party had a chicken salad type dish.
My personal experience with my food ( hamburger). It was a high quality burger cooked just right (I ordered it medium) served with tomatoes, mayo on a nice large English muffin. It appeared to be of good quality but the one thing happened was disconcerting to me. When we were served the food, it was by persons other than our server who by that time in our stay we had built a report with but not with these other people. So two men from the kitchen, one male bartender and the manager or owner all came at once with all the food to our table. When they served me my hamburger, I asked "can I get some mayonnaise" (because I am a big mayo lover) and the manager or owner person looked at me as if I just stabbed him in the back and said to me in a (are you kidding me tone), "there's mayonnaise on it" (pointing at my hamburger in a way to signal that I should look inside it). So rather than trying to explain to him that in the 70 years I have lived on this earth I knew when I wanted more mayonnaise I simply said, it's okay, thank you.
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest here is how I'd rate our experience: FOOD: 6 for taste - 8 for appeal Although my hamburger looked very good, the flavors were very bland, so bland in fact I could not finish it, not because I wasn't hungry enough but because it really was that tasteless.
DRINKS: 9+ I had wine and the others had mixed drinks, I tasted some of them and they were very good. There was no wanting for a better drink, the drinks were excellent.
General Friendliness and helpfulness of staff: 9+
General Friendless and helpfulness of the Manager/Owner. 1 and that's being kind.
Final bill for everything, $275
I will most likely not be returning to this establishment in the...
Read moreI had to revisit my previous review after the GM reached out to me and offered a sincere apology for my past experience. I have to say I was greatly impressed. I am very glad I was able to give this place another chance. As per my first review I was greeted respectfully by the hostess and was seen to my table. Almost immediately I was greeted by our server and she was a delight.
So to make sure I gave an honest in-depth second review I got a few dishes to try out and man do they have some tasty food. The team in the kitchen is killing it. The wings were crisp all the way around and mixing their Buffalo and BBQ sauce on the wings was perfection. If I’m not mistaken I believe even their ranch was made in house and even that tasted delicious. Next, their sweet potato waffle fries had just the right amount of seasoning and tasted even better when mixed with their chipotle sauce. The French sliders were juicy and the sauce to dip the sliders in put them up on another level. The filet bites were cooked at perfect temperature, they were seasoned a bit lighter than the rest of the food but that was for a good reason. They came with a cream you dip them in that just added so much flavor. We then move on to the COD tacos, although not my favorite thing I ordered that night I can honestly say you would not be disappointed. The tacos tasted good and the veggies were nice and fresh. Loved the beans that came them but I would die for a whole bottle of the salsa it was paired with. The Patty Melt had flavor in every bite, I’m not huge on burgers but I wouldn’t mind eating these often. Of course the food was finished up with their tasty chocolate chip cheesecake.
Now I know that was a long read but if you want an idea on what to order those are some very solid options and I can only imagine the rest tastes just as good. As for the above 21 years are concerned, I tasted 3 cocktails in this place and let me tell you that they are signature cocktails for a reason. My favorite of the three was a toss up between Sweet Skete or Whiskey Goals. The Slob on the Knob was also delicious but those two tasted so good that I thoroughly enjoyed every sip. The best part is, they don’t skimp out on the alcohol to save the flavor.
All in all this place is a must try while in Scottsdale and if you’re not in Scottsdale, drive yourself over from whatever part of the valley you’re in and get there. Solid food, solid service and...
Read moreBlack people stay away, we are not welcomed at this place.
I was with a group of 6 friends, who are all are black, and we walked in on a Saturday night. The place seemed very dead for a weekend night, only 2-3 tables were occupied on the outside.
The bouncer, stopped and carded each of us in the group. We took two steps in the building, and although there were empty tables inside, we were told they were reserved and that we would have to wait for them to put a table together.
As we were waiting for a table, I noticed a non POC couple stop and speak to the bouncer, who was now laughing and smiling , and he didn't even card them.
Shortly after, we are seated outside and were only provided 2 food menus and 3 cocktail menus. I asked our host for a few more menus and she said "I'll see if I can find some extras" and quickly walked away. Never even giving us her name. Why do you have to "find extra" menus when half of the restaurant is empty? She comes back and hand me 1 food menu and 1 cocktail menu and quickly disappeared yet again before we could say anything.
About 5 minutes later, some lady came out passing out empty cups. No water in sight on a 90+ degree night. I asked her if she could come here after she finished passing out the cups. She passes out the cups and proceeds to walk away. I said "excuse me" and she looked highly annoyed, like I was bothering her. I asked her if we could have more food menus, she said "I'm not your host, I'll see if I can find her", and again quickly walked out. The way they were running away from our table, you would've thought the place was slammed packed.
Me and my group all felt uncomfortable and decided to leave. As we were leaving, the bouncer and the cup girl both rolled their eyes at us. I wouldn't recommend this place to my someone I hated. The staff made us feel extremely unwanted and were rude and dismissive and we weren't even there 10 minutes. Luckily for us, we found a much more welcoming restaurant who was able to get us a last minute reservation and the music, food and drinks were amazing. And THAT place was actually busy and becoming more packed once we got there.
Please don't waste your...
