We were in Scottsdale for the weekend to look at places for an upcoming move and wanted to be near everything so that we could enjoy the full experience of Scottsdale. This was a mistake. We should have gone back to Marriott at McDowell Mountain.
The location is pretty nice as your just steps from almost everything and that's what we wanted, but you're paying for location and location alone. I travel multiple times a year and always stay at Marriotts, this was by far the worst one I've visited.
Everyone is nice, for the most part. Everyone we met at the front desk, valet and spoke to on the phone were all pleasant. The lady working in the restaurant though, she made us feel like we were bothering her. That wasn't too cool.
The rooms are dated. The carpet is old. The furniture is old. The rooms and the balconies are very small. The bathroom is a decent size, but filled with dead space. The shower is small you have to really work at washing your back and the toilet is facing the shower, awkward when someone needs to use the bathroom while you're showering. Speaking of the shower, no hot water!!! We called in and asked if there was a problem and were told that it can take 10 minutes to warm up. Well, 20 minutes later and it was still lukewarm. In addition, our shower kept filling up with water as the drain was clogged. This room really felt like a super 8 suite.
Moving on. The shoppe had nothing. Which odd, I know most of them do not have much, but usually a toothbrush and tooth paste. This one was limited. We forgot toothpaste and had to drive to CVS. Inconvenient.
The gym was decent. Had everything you needed to stay active while you're away. This one had their water, ear buds and towels stocked too. That's was nice. It even had apples for afterward. Plus.
The restaurant seating is ok. Again, appears dated. Outside at the fire pits was very nice! The food was decent. We had filet mignon. The steak was cooked well and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were excellent and the asparagus wasn't too bad either. The wine was extremely over priced. We paid $30 a glass for a 2012 Alexander Valley Cab. That bottle retails for like $25. In a restaurant you should expect to pay about $50 for the bottle and about $12-$15 a glass. The service was horrible. We waited and waited and then waited a bit more. When We were finally helped I felt like I was wasting her time.
At $267 a night, we paid about $80 a night for the room and the remainder was do to the location. What are you going to do? I know we won't be back to this location, but hey, try it out for yourself. Most people seem to think the rooms are really nice. Maybe I'm...
Read moreThe valet, Kenny, is the only reason i'm giving this hotel 2 stars. He recommended restaurants every day for two weeks and was spot on every time - some of the best food I have had - THANKS KENNY!!! To be fair, I was in town for business and this hotel/location is not the right place for that. If you're under 35ish and in town for fun, you'll love it. Lots of night life and great local places to eat and do things. The hotel was clean and updated but not to the point it was worth the price. Food and parking was expensive. Front desk staff was not rude but not friendly or understanding. I had the pleasure of a room 5 floors above the garbage bin/employee smoking lounge/shipping & receiving area and when I went down to tell the front desk that my room smells like trash and stale cigarettes and i'm being woke up at 4:30 am by delivery trucks unloading, they were largely unsympathetic. They could move my room to the 2nd floor outside of the front entrance (which, no matter the hour was always filled with people and cars) so I would be trading employee smoking for guest smoking, semi unloading for non-stop guest loading and unloading - and adding the noise from gaggles of guest milling about - no thanks. Now, don't get me wrong, the hotel wasn't full, they had rooms I could change to but they were a lot more expensive than the 229 I was paying (it was a business trip, my company paid). I wouldn't likely stay here again, not even for pleasure, but, again, if you're under 35 and in town for fun, you'll like it. If you're older than 35, appreciate a good nights sleep and/or in town for business, go somewhere else or request a room on the highest floor on the side that does not open up to either cross road and you should be okay, maybe - I heard the outdoor lounge area was pretty loud as well. Be sure to ask Kenny for some local...
Read moreIn Dec/2023, I was scheduled for a one night stay at Scottsdale Marriott Old Town. Due to an unforeseen medical emergency I had to fly home early. I contacted Marriott within 24 hours of my reservation to cancel, and was informed that I would be charged the one night stay because I did not cancel within their cancellation time. When I inquired about receiving a credit due to cutting my trip short because of an unforeseen medical emergency, I was told "no" because I had not contacted Marriott within the 48 hour cancellation policy period. As I explained to the representative at the hotel, if I was able to foresee my medical emergency I would have cancelled within their cancellation period. The representative informed me that it does not matter if it's an emergency they would not refund me. She then proceeded to try and upsell me on Marriotts vacation club. As a long time Marriott member and bonvoy card holder, I contacted Marriott bonvoy to explain my situation. I was provided with a case number and informed that my email was sent to the account team at Scottsdale Marriott Old Town, and I would receive an answer within 5 business days. The account team never provided me with a response. I contacted Marriott to follow up and I was informed the account team had reviewed my case and denied a refund or credit. I was also informed by the manager at Marriott bonvoy that each Marriott hotel has their own account team that decides whether a customer will be refunded, and the account team at Scottsdale Marriott never refunds their customers. The manager stated there wasn't anything that Marriott could do to assist me. Seriously, as an international hotel chain Marriott could not provide me with assistance in getting a credit or refund. This was very disappointing to learn and they have lost a very...
