Quick Review: the pizza is great, the baked ziti is great, the service and atmosphere was excellent. Shout out to Wyatt for his excellent service.
I came here in November on travel and was in search of a small pizza place that was next to the sweet republic. I was not expecting much, but boy was I surprised. The atmosphere, the food, and the service were all excellent.
Atmosphere: This is a small place with maybe 5 tables, 1 TV, and one small counter for the register. It is cozy, but the two times I went there, I always had a seat because so many of the orders were to go.
The food: The first time I went, I got a couple of slices because that is what was recommended to me. The first cheese and the second was cheese with meatball. Both were excellent New York style thin crust pizza slices--the dough just tasted and felt so fresh. It was fluffy but crispy at the same time and was just great. The second visit, I had to try the baked ziti especially after Wyatt (I will tell you about him later) said it was "better than his mom's, but dont tell her that." It was FANTASTIC especially with the added meatball slices and the garlic knots on the side. The garlic knots were amazing by the way--super freshly baked and just pulled apart to fluffy amazingness.
Service: What truly brought me back was the service. The way Wyatt greeted me at the door put a smile on my face instantly. It was so welcoming and just pure happiness. He truly made the experience what it was and made me want to come back a few days later. When I did make it back, even with the super busy line and phone calls, the moment he saw me he had to yell out "I knew you'd be back!" with a smile on his face. He just seems like a genuine good guy and it was awesome. His recommendations on the food were spot on and his personality really shined in the store.
I highly recommend this place, it was just a...
Read moreI heard about this place on the Nextdoor app a few months ago. People were raving about how this was the best NY pizza in N Scottsdale, so I had to try it out. It took me a few months to make it over there (because I'm diabetic and a slice of two of pizza is a treat to myself every few months) but I finally did last weekend. I also read the Google and Yelp reviews too and was super excited to see they had 24" pizzas! The only other place I can think of that has oversized pizzas is Gus's Pizza in Tempe, who has a 36". Well, when I got there on a Saturday around 4pm and ordered at the counter, the girl told me they didn't have any left. Huh??? There's a 24" pizza pan on the wall right behind her, with 24" painted on it in full display, right next to all the other sizes. She then told me they don't make those after 4pm. Then she told me to always call ahead to check availability for 24" pies. Sorry, but this makes no sense to me. They really need to put that in writing on their website and Google/Yelp pages to let people know. I mean, it was a Saturday at almost dinner time, when I would imagine that would be a popular item. Maybe I'm wrong but I was still very disappointed. Are the doughs frozen? Why were they out? If they make their pizza fresh, why couldn't they just make one? All the things they told me doesn't make sense. I had guests coming over that night and was really looking forward to those 24" pies I've been eyeballing for 2 months. I ended up getting a few 18" pies. They were 4 star good but definitely not a 5. The cheese pizzas had very little cheese on them but overall pretty good but I probably won't be driving the extra few miles back to this place in the future for the disappointment they put me through. There are other places...
Read moreEdit: I used to love coming here and even recommended it to friends and family. Sadly, the experience just isn’t the same anymore. We arrived at 5:16 and didn’t receive our two pizzas until 5:43, 27 minutes, which felt like a long wait considering the dining room wasn’t very busy and we only ordered two pizzas. The food was just okay this time. The garlic knots were still delicious as always, but the pizzas were definitely not the same. Even the crust had changed, missing the flavor and rise that used to make it special.
What surprised and disappointed me the most was the response I got after leaving a calm and honest review. Instead of accepting the feedback or even asking how they could improve, the owner responded by calling me out by name, mentioning my mom, and accusing us of trying to hurt a small business. That kind of defensive and personal reply is really unprofessional, especially when I didn’t say anything offensive or malicious, just shared our experience.
No one is out to damage the business. If anything, I held back from being overly critical in my original review. Things change, and that’s okay, but customers should be able to give feedback without being personally attacked for it. Unfortunately, after both the quality of the food and the way we were treated, I don’t see myself coming back.
Edit: used to love to come here but it is no longer the same sadly. 45 minutes for 2 pizzas while dining in was insanely long when it wasn’t very busy plus it just was alright. The garlic knots were the only saving grace and were still delicious. No longer going to have dreams about the Whitestone.
Original review: I still have dreams about the...
