Went to Carmen's restaurant at the Raddison hotel for brunch with my family. Our food was fine and everyone was happy with their meal. The major issue was the staff. Our server, Antwon, started out very rude from the start. He awkwardly stood by the side of my wife without saying anything until she uncomfortably asked if he was taking our drink order. He responded in a way that suggested he was annoyed and was like obviously, which would have been fine if he said literally anything. He then told us we needed to hurry up and order because the chef is about to leave. The next encounter involved asking about the hollandaise sauce, inquiring if it was homemade. Antwon responded with "I'm sure it is," which is fine but it didn't sound as if he was confident in his answer. I asked if he could clarify with the chef, which he responded with, "I just clarified it for you," in a confrontational tone. I then spoke with the manager to inform him of his servers behavior. Lee the manager was kind and courteous but quickly overstayed his welcome. He proceeded to do two impressions and stayed talking throughout the whole time we were eating our food. He proceeded to sit down next to my father to continue talking. He was not getting the hint that we just wanted to eat our food with our family. He was nice enough to comp my meal, but when the bill came the meal was not comped. The manager came back when we informed our second server, and he responded with, "I'm not gonna lie to you I was outside smoking a cigarette and I forgot." At this point we just wanted to leave. Antwon during this time decided to come out and apologize, which I appreciated initially until he restarted the conversation about the hollandaise sauce. I politely said everything is fine to just end the conversation so we can get out of there. I don't know what happened to this place but from the server to the manager they acted completely unprofessional and made us cringe throughout our time there. The food is good, but the experience is tainted by lackluster service and feeling as if we are bothering them for asking them to do their job. This is my first review I ever left due to how uncomfortable everyone at our table felt. Hopefully this review helps them gain some insight on how their costumers are experiencing...
Read moreFor the past six years, our Thanksgiving tradition has been to dine at Carmen's. Regrettably, this year's experience was severely lacking in terms of food selection, warmth, and availability.
Upon being seated, we promptly ordered drinks. However, the Autumn martini arrived in a juice glass filled with ice, and we had to wait an additional twenty minutes for the remaining beverages. Our waiter informed us that there was only one bartender working on Thanksgiving, which seemed inadequate for the occasion.
Furthermore, the coffee we received was served cold. The buffet was frequently empty for extended periods, up to thirty minutes at times. This was not an exaggeration, as the stuffing was only brought out as we were departing, having been unavailable throughout our meal.
This Thanksgiving gathering included two other couples, and we were not the only ones expressing dissatisfaction. Nearby tables were also complaining, and people were standing and waiting for food to be replenished at the buffet.
The reason for this decline in service is unclear, but it has certainly prompted us to reconsider our patronage of Carmen's in the future.
We did speak to the manager, who offered the customary apologies, but we believe that preventive measures should be taken to avoid such situations altogether.
Despite the circumstances, our waiter, Devon, was apologetic and understanding. Although the shortcomings were not his fault, we left him a holiday gratuity as a gesture of appreciation for...
Read moreMy family went to Carmen's on December 23 for their Brunch. My wife and I where looking for a place that would have both great food and a nice atmosphere for Christmas. Unfortunately Carmen's did not live up to our expectations.
While the old train station is still beautiful it is in need of some repairs. The antique style Santa Clause that is in front of the building looks like he can use a power washing. From my seat I could see poorly run wires and plaster patches on the walls. While the building was decorated for Christmas there was no music to set the mood, live or recorded, which was a truly disappointing considering they have a baby grand piano.
The Food quality was good however it was lukewarm at best this includes the gravy for the turkey and mashed potatoes. I kept looking for a microwave to heat my food. My son's girlfriend enjoyed her fresh omelet and the turkey was not bad but I have had better at other carving stations. The Bacon was cheap restaurant quality that was lacking in taste.
I will admit that they had a great desert area and the service from the staff was amazing! Over all the place was nice. Actually the quality of the service is what earned them a third star!
Would I go back? Maybe. I must admit that there are better brunch options, in the same price range, in Scranton that I would chose to...
