I'm adding a star because Brouwer's and I have found a way to peacefully coexist. Like any great marriage, our relationship is founded on the consumption of alcohol... and lots of it. I have a habit, Brouwer's supports it without nagging me and subsequently we will live happily ever after. I just choose not to eat her cooking.
Brouwer's: Come for the beer, stay for the... beer?
First, props where props are due - their beer list, both taps and bottles, is phenomenal. There are very few places in these here United States of Amurrica where I have seen a selection as comprehensive as theirs. It's a great place to find your old favorites, discover new one and get a wee bit plastered in the process.
So why three stars? Brouwer's fell down in almost every other way. Our waitress was extremely unhelpful and couldn't even speak in coherent sentences when we asked for recommendations to fit a specific taste. Then there was the 20 minute wait for our appetizer of greasy, cold duck confit and soggy bread. The mussels were good, but the portion was smaller than I expected. The sauce/broth with them was downright fantastic, but the relatively small square of bread they supplied to soak it up was kinda a joke. We asked for more bread and were provided two more squares... to the tune of 75 cents, which we weren't aware of until we got the bill. Seriously, who charges for bread? Probably the kind of people who do it without telling you they are. Ugh.
I wanted to love Brouwer's. I really wanted it to be that perfect Belgian drinky drinky house we've been searching for since we were in Brussels two years ago. I don't know that it's fair to expect that of Brouwer's, but I certainly expected it to be more than just a great beer list. I'd like to give it another try and see if the food and service was just bad luck. If it wasn't, I guess I'll just go there and drink my face...

Almost like a hazy, sullen and bashful dream, this cafeteria was literally modeled after your middle school cafeteria, and they also hired the same lunch ladies to work here so you will immediately know everyone's names who is serving you. This is a great business scheme, as IT GAVE MANY SENIOR CITIZENS JOBS. When you enter this cafeteria, you'll notice the distinct, pungent stench of rotting fruit engulfs your senses, but once you get past that, you will be pleased with the guests who share the space with you as well as breakfast pizzas. This is the theme of the cafeteria, don't be mistaken. Something I cannot stress enough is that there is a 67% chance you will fall in love while you're here, because there are many lovers and lovebirds who choose to inhabit this coop / co-op. Just be careful and make sure you protect your heart from any additional pain and heartburn because there are no laws in place to make sure the food they serve you is healthy so you must make sure to check your macros on your own as the STAFF ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TRACK YOUR MACROS ANYMORE after the incident. If you are a fan of breakfast pizza like the lunch ladies at your school used to make, COME HERE...
Read moreAs good as I remember it from their opening! Neah Excellent! I had the Deluxe Lamb burger. It always seems small when it first comes out. But it's thick and Juicy and soooo much flavor 😋 the accompanying fries and my favorite out of any restaurant in my life. Because I love when fries are crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle and almost shoe string style. I had Punkicino by Elysian and one that the bartender recommend because two I asked about they where out 😁 They where one of the first in Seattle to have the most taps that they do! There is one bar in Tacoma that had the most amount of taps before they even opened. But I won't names names out of respect for local businesses. I love their seating though. Variety. There is a VIP style spot by the staircase by the hard A Bar. That has two couches and a table. You can sit at the bar. In a few booths. And some tables downstairs. Then what I like is the upstairs section that is open to the whole downstairs as the seating is boarding the walls. So when they have events your not missing out being upstairs. Also the design is that way because it was an old Firehouse. Last but not least it's a super friendly laid back atmosphere. Like they've known you your whole life 🙂 Enjoy...
