overall, cafe an clair is an aesthetic coffee spot in SLU with very average/below average food.
the food was decent overall. i had the avocado toast, the yuzu financier and a spicy chai with oat milk. the avocado was not good. the bread was thick and it was not toasted (??). the amount of avocado on the bread was too much for a bread of that size. no seasoning at all, just some red chili flakes on top. the crust of the bread was hard to chew through, but the white part was too soft (it was collapsing under the weight from the avocado). for $9.75, i would not recommend this avocado toast at all. the yuzu financier did not taste of yuzu at all, just almond cake. but it was very good. I liked that the financiers were bite sized and you could try a couple of flavors for those. they tasted fresh. the spicy chai with oat milk was good. for people looking for ‘authentic’ chai, it was not ‘authentic’ but nonetheless, it was very good. it was not too frothy and had the right amount of spice.
service was good. the ladies at the front were polite and friendly. service was quick, no issues with the service at all.
atmosphere is actually really good. it’s in SLU but it’s not cramped at all. the interior is monochrome white. the chairs are nice and cute and they’re placed by the window so they get enough sunlight. some bigger tables (4-6pax), but mostly tables for 2. it feels like a comfortable place where you can work for a couple of hours.
overall, cafe anClair needs to work on their avocado toast but it’s a good place to relax and have your coffee/put in a couple of hours of work. I would recommend to people working in downtown for a quick coffee stop or for a corporate/work 1:1 (but only...
Read moreLoved my experience here and would come back for the service and ambiance! Great and very friendly service and special thanks to the 3 ladies working there today, who informed about their special coffee roasts and made my choice in trying out a new beverage easier. They even offered to put a candied orange slice in my mocha on learning I had tried an orange latte elsewhere. I appreciate the extra effort. The mocha had real chocolate in it (instead of chocolate sauce or powder). I was also offered to try some chocolate chip cookie as I was making my choice of what to order. It was delicious! I was also served a sample of their other baked goodies which made purchase decisions easier. Although my visit was quite short, the excellent service has left a...
Read moreI found this cafe sub par which surprised me due to the reviews. Staff was kind and quick so I don't fault them for any of this, but the recipes and processes need to be reexamined. The breakfast sandwiches have good ingredients but they microwave the crap out of them drying out the bread and destroying the cheese. There's also no sauce on them and your counter choices are ketchup and tabasco. Where's my cholula or something similar? I also had a Mocha that had so much cocoa powder I couldn't taste any coffee. It was basically a hot chocolate. The space is cramped and bad pop music played too loud. Ok maybe I'm just being a curmudgeon with that last bit but it's really hard to ignore all the...
