We currently own a 28 lb doberman mix puppy. We got together with some friends who also own medium to larger-sized dogs and thought it would be fun to go to a dog cafe.
Pros: Good place to train your dog Dogs can socialize with other dogs on a windy/rainy day
The downside: There are multiple signs requesting to be mindful of other people's dogs, to keep them on a leash/harness if overexcited, etc. My dog does get a bit excited around other dogs, however whenever she was getting too excited we would direct her back and leash her. The owner specifically made this request to us as we entered the cafe, and I had no issues with this as she is only a 5-month old puppy and I also don't want her to learn bad habits or be disruptive. I also didn't mind that the owner would at times redirect her by pulling on her harness. We followed our pup around the cafe and leashed her when she got annoying.
The issue I have with this cafe is that the owner seems to let all these smaller poorly-trained misbehaved dogs do whatever they want. If you are going to treat our dog like this, I expect you to treat everyone's dogs the same. All the small dogs we saw that day were extremely socially dysfunctional, poorly mannered, barking at everything and everyone, running around and causing chaos. You should be requesting the same of those owners to leash/harness their dog, and redirect them as they clearly haven't bothered to train their dogs.
I would come again purely for training purposes, but otherwise it felt that the owner had different standards for smaller dogs vs medium to larger-sized dogs. If you aren't comfortable with bigger dogs, maybe just place a weight restriction...
Read moreCoby's is a cafe I hope stays for a long time to become a community pillar. Both staff and customers are not only dog lovers, but enthusiasts as well. The atmosphere is great for people who are passionate about dogs whether as; an owner looking for tips and mingle with other owners, someone on the fence about ownership/introducing kids to dogs before taking the leap, or someone who just loves dogs and wants to play with them. Everyone helps the dogs interact and have truly built a community over the last year. From doggie brand pop-ups, to meet ups, to parties, and more, it's been great to see what's been built in the past year.
I appreciate it also not having an expansive menu which I've seen many cafes fall into in Seattle which leads to various issues around quality and pricing. Here rather, they picked a few things to focus on and execute well, which they most definitely have. Mixed with seasonal or spur the moment items keep the menu stable, but fresh at the same time. This allows me to have a usual food/drink I can order when I go in, but trust into knowing seasonal items will be thoughtful, well chosen, and delicious. And this is without mentioning the care put into the food and drink focused on the dogs themselves. As someone very picky about what restaurants and cafes I return to, I'm happy to have Coby's in my...
Read moreIt’s surprising that Seattle doesn’t have more dog-friendly cafes! In this cafe, you’re able to bring your dog INDOORS and let them be off-leash. It’s a great space to work in and meet other dog owners. I brought my little dog. The space is more of cafe chill environment vs. a chaotic dog park environment. The cafe space is separated by a wall. You can enter through the dog friendly area, order via online and there’s a window that will bring you the items you ordered. There’s dog friendly treats! The cafe also has a lot of free parking available.
I order a matcha latte which was really good, I think next time I would add vanilla flavoring since I like mine sweet. I ordered my pup a pawcha latte which she enjoyed.
I got a chance to speak with the owner. You can tell she is really passionate about dogs! The place is named after her dog Coby who’s a frequent resident of the cafe.
Note: There is a small fee for each dog you bring in, but the pricing is very reasonable. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to work but doesn’t want to leave their furry...
