I hadn't been to Despi Delite for a few years, but was in the area and stopped in. They are a Filipino bakery that has been around for a long time. I see a lot of their baked goods all around at Seattle grocery stores. I visited Despi Delite after 2pm on a Friday afternoon and was the only customer there. They had a lot of choices still available. They had donuts, cakes, cookies, Mexican breads and pastries, cheesecakes, etc. After processing all of the choices, I ended up getting a peanut and almond cream cookie sandwich as well as a slice of ube cake. I don't know what to call the peanut almond cream cookie sandwich but it was almost like a nutter butter with softer, lighter cookies and cream on top and crushed peanuts on top. The texture was somewhat strange and while I would not get it again, I appreciated the peculiarity of the dessert. As for the ube cake, it was amazing. It was a deep purple and the cake was moist and sweet with ube flavor. The cream was also rich but not too sweet as well. I will definitely return, the parking lot makes it a lot...
Read moreWe bought a big sheet cake for my wife's birthday. I think we paid $100.00 too much. Even so, we did like the ube flavored cake, not too sweet.
At the time we impulsively bought an egg custard pie. The crust needed another ten minutes at 400 degrees in the oven -- really undercooked. The filling had some vague sweetness but no flavor.
One of our credit cards shows a $200.00 credit from Despi Delite Bakery, but neither my nor I know what it was for. Did they charge us twice and back out one charge? Did they over-charge and then refund? Nobody said anything to us. Such a mystery is not good for business. I guess we could call them, but why should we have to do that?
We know that Delite Bakery has been serving the community for generations, but it probably won't be serving us anymore. 85 Degrees in Southcenter is really our favorite. We should have stuck with that one. Bakery Nouveau in West Seattle is also reliably good. Oh well.
Update July 2023, we're back for a birthday cake, ube, not too sweet. Good price. My wife bought a Filipino...
Read moreBritt did an amazing job on my daughters baby shower cake. I found a picture on pinterest and she was able to bring it to life. Down side is that it was about $180, that is expensive considering it literally only feeds 20 and I had to buy my own crown. She offered to supply the crown and deliver but at an additional costs which was around $220.The original cake from my photo had 2 pillows on top of each other but the quote for that was almost $400. I decided on just the one pillow and found a crown on Amazon for $10 bucks. Since the cake was basically going to be on the table as a decoration, and there was NO WAY to give each of the 60+ baby shower guests that came to my daughter baby shower, we decided not to cut it and send it home with her. I picked a red velvet with cream cheese filling and my daughter said it was really good. I wish i couldve tasted it! I would give 5 stars but the cost was really high. Note to self "go to school for baking and cake decor, you'll def...
