I’m a pretty fair reviewer and wanted to give Eltana a five star based on the taste of their delicious bagels. However, due to the experience of one of the workers, I felt compelled to write this. I was so excited to visit the location, as this was my first visit. It was a beautiful sunny day, I walked into Eltana around 2:00 pm and received my food order around 2:20 pm. The website says the business closes at 4:00 pm. There were three tables next to the window with chairs up and I decided to sit down at one of those tables to enjoy my bagel and watch the bustling movement of Capital Hill on Saturday afternoon. After about five minutes, a lady with green hair came over to me and asked me to move because the area was “closed”. I definitely understand closing procedures and operating as a small business, but I don’t think it would have hurt to allow me to sit there and enjoy my food and coffee. I asked her, very politely, if it would hurt to allow me to sit there and she said, in a harsh, disdainful tone, “it is part of our closing procedure and that section is closed.”

My recommendation to this business is to amend the closing process, especially on a Saturday, to close down the back part of the seating area first to allow customers to enjoy window seating. And, praying that this person is not the owner, teach this employee what good customer service is. Why have the seating area closest to the street view off limits during a busy business day and two hours before closing time? To note: the person who took my order was polite.

At that point, I didn’t even want to finish my sandwich, my coffee, or choose another seat. I probably won’t come back or purchase the product again. However, a response from the owner of this business could change the bad taste this experience...

STAY AWAY. CROOKED BUSINESS. ACCUSED ME OF THEFT WHEN ALL I DID WAS PLACE AN ORDER ON UBER EATS THAT THEY APPROVED AND ACCEPTED.

TL:DR: They provide options on Uber eats they don't plan to fill and only deliver part of your order. When you call them to ask about it they ACCUSE YOU OF THEFT. It's insane.

I placed three orders on Uber eats. First time they delivered my order - it wasn't delicious but I got everything I ordered and satisfied a bagel craving. Second time I didn't get any spreads, assumed it was an error and let it go. The third time I didn't get spreads again so I called them to complain and instead of being polite they accused of trying to steal from them by underpaying and they don't fill those orders. How is the customer to know that when they provide that option on Uber eats to select a bagel and a spread and a cream cheese for no additional cost. You assume it’s baked into the full cost.

If the shop owner had (1) called me to tell me when I placed the order that there was a mistake I would have gladly paid more or (2) been polite on the phone and tried to come up with a solution I would have understood. Hell, I was even down to drive over and pay for the additional spread if he had been polite and apologetic. Instead the moment I called he accused me of trying to steal from them. All I did was place an order on Uber eats, pay for it and then call them when I didn't get what I ordered and paid for (for the second time).

I don't know who taught this store owner customer service or even basic human decency, but if that's what you're looking for stay away from this crooked business.

P.S. UPDATE YOUR UBER EATS OPTIONS IF YOU DONT PLAN TO FILL THEM. As the customer I don't know any better. And never blame the customer for following through on options...

I’m not one to leave a negative review… but I have been to this place multiple times and every single time I go there, the staff is not nice to me at all. I don’t expect anything from service workers as I know that this industry is exhausting, however I can’t believe that every single person I’ve interacted with here treats me like I’m an inconvenience. Like they’re annoyed they have to help their customers??? Literally every single time I go in. Today I was the only one in line and when asked what kind of cream cheese I would like, I asked what the options were. The cashier sounded annoyed that I would even ask and didn’t even tell me the options and told me to look up at the menu on the wall, that is honestly not accessible for someone with poor vision!! And when my bagel was ready, it was just thrown on the counter with a mumbled “thank you”. I just feel rubbed the wrong way every time I come in here and I don’t think I’ll be returning. The bagels aren’t even worth the poor treatment from the service staff. Much nicer workers at other cafes nearby. I’ll take my business elsewhere and wouldn’t recommend this place to a friend. Go to Cafe Argento right down the block! Delicious bagels and friendly...

I tried this place three times in 2 months before giving a review. Unfortunately, it never got any better. The first thing I noticed about this place was the poor customer service. The first two times I came in the staff seemed annoyed that I was there and barely talked or looked at me. It was discouraging as it was my first time trying them out. Today, my third visit, was better but still not great. The actual bagels are a bit smaller for what you can get for the same price elsewhere. Every time I asked for the bagel to be toasted but I could never tell if it was or not when eating. There was no part of it that was crispy. My bagel today was also underbaked, as seen in photo. The center was still very doughy. On a personal note of taste, the cream cheese is a bit too soft and creamy for me. I like a more firm and tangy schmear but to each their own. It was still tasty. I don’t think I’ll be back any time soon. There are just too many other very good bagel places within walking distance.
