So for context, I've been trying to get out to as many of Seattle's espresso places as possible when I have time off, especially ones that have come recommended. I've been recommended Herkimer a lot. A lot of places I love use their beans!
That said, the cappuccino I got here didn't live up to the reputation. I don't really know what all the variables are; I've heard even great baristas occasionally pull bad shots. My cappuccino was really acidic and a bit burnt- not the most burnt I've had, for sure. Better than Starbucks, for sure; It was also not busy, so I don't think it was a case of the staff being crunched. I think I was led to believe this place was a bit more of a "we dial in everything with care" place, but it seems more like a "get your daily latte" place that is not very intense about the quality of shots pulled.
Anyways; no shade to Herkimer or the staff! If this was my local shop I'd still come often. Again, better than Starbucks and a great local option- Mostly, if you are hunting for the best cups in Seattle, it doesn't quite live up to it's reputation yet, to me.
Caveat that I also know from my local shops that even the same barista can have a wide range of shot quality, or the quality can vary between baristas, so I don't want to review bomb based on a single drink. (I have definitely picked which shop to go to based on the day of the week, so...)
(4 stars because I'm not trying to hurt the business!! mostly just posting to try and give constructive feedback/set expectations. The baristas were very nice and the...
Read moreDecent coffee and pastries. Cute and cozy atmosphere that fits right into Seattle. I wanted to try this place out before coming with friends, since I moved right across the street last week, but I'm on the fence about it due to service. It was quick, but I didn't feel welcome at all as a customer and still tipped cash. I'm a barista, too, so I get it to some extent, but I always smile and welcome customers. If I don't recognize someone, I ask if it's their first time in and offer my help. I just thought it was an uncomfortable interaction—I'm smiling, tip, and say thank you, but you're barely going to acknowledge me other than when you have to look up to take my order and hand it off to me (it wasn't busy either, there was only one person behind me in line right when my order was ready). I don't expect a conversation and I'm not chatty myself in these interactions, but I feel like a bare minimum in service is a greeting and thank you. For me, what makes or breaks a café is its baristas—they're the heart of a...
Read moreThis is my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. It is reliably good. I come here often either to have a drink and read/get work done, catch up with a friend, or to pick up a half growler of cold brew. The half growlers are amazing, convenient, a good price, and I have my coffee for 3-5 days. My partner and I have also had ice almond milk lattes, cortados, and drip coffee here, all good. Decent selection of baked goods (Mighty O donuts!).
The baristas are awesome- chill, friendly, and efficient. Never had a bad customer service experience here. I have also observed them handling challenging customer situations with real grace and poise.
I like that it is a quieter coffee shop but still lively. They play good music and there are always people coming in and out (especially on Saturdays with the Farmer's Market) but, as a general rule, people are respectful of the space and do their chatting or working quietly. They have a few outdoor chairs which is really nice for people watching or people...
