We have enjoyed Salty's for special occasions through the years. But Friday we got a seafood meal for two in a net bag to prepare at home. It came boxed attractively with frozen packets. After twelve minutes in simmering water, we dumped it onto a platter, poured the sauce into a bowl for dipping toasted French bread, and enjoyed a wonderful meal of shellfish, corn on the cob, mini potatoes -- all finger food. It was deliciously spicy, not at all overwhelming.
We each ate a lot! Great with chilled white wine and dark beer. We had leftovers for two so the cost of $60 was VERY reasonable.
The Alaska king crab legs were so (expletive removed) delicious! So were the sweet corn, prawns and colorful potatoes. One was actually a dark purple yam. OMG OMG
When I picked it up I had a yearning to dine there again. Great atmosphere and service. Signs on the floor said "Swim six feet apart." -- stuff like that makes it fun. The diners were safely spaced apart from each other.
I grabbed a few postcards advertising their other take-out offerings. One is to pick three of five dishes for $30.00. We'll probably try it soon.
Thank you, Salty's folks, for enriching our lives!
Yesterday we tried to our great satisfaction! the Game Day take-out, pick three of 5 dishes, Sundays only. You can see from the pictures where we got the cocktail shrimp, the cheeseburger and fries, and the hot wings, though of course, Salty's being Salty's, the menu items have cute names like "flappers." LOL
Wow, it's good food! The mistake we made was to order a side of fries as well, not knowing what the portions would be like. For $30.00 it seemed like a very good deal. My wife mentioned that the burger on the regular menu is $13.00, which sounds about right for an upscale place like Salty's. Is it a half-pounder? We both had our fill. Anyhow, I had the leftover fries reheated in the oven at work and enjoyed them quite a bit. There's a choice of sauce for the wings and we went for the classic. I love Tabasco, so their Cajun kind of sauce was fine for me, but hot! Next time we'll try the Korean BBQ sauce, sweeter and make with soy sauce. The shrimp was fresh and lightly dusted with parsley. It came with traditional cocktail sauce, while with wings came with a tasty ranch dressing.
It was so perfect to have a picnic there at Alki. In the summer, forget it. It's so crowded that parking is a real problem. But this time of year parking was easy and we found a couple of tables, but forgot to bring a tablecloth, so we opted to share a bench with the food between us. We had brought our own cans of Diet Coke.
We had chores to do at home Sunday afternoon but the sunshine and the delicious Salty's food inspired us to play hooky. We spent the rest of the daylight wandering around University Village shopping mall. With Salty's in your day, the living is good! I can leave work early today and clear the leaves from the yards before it rains tomorrow.
Next we'll try the Tuesdays only special! Oh boy. You'll have to wait to hear about it. My favorite is still "Friday Dinner is In the Bag," all of that shellfish, sausage, corn on the cob, YUM.
I hope that you can try some of these Salty's specials while they are still available. A few weeks have passed and I'm back to praise and celebrate Salty's Thanksgiving for Two takeout / heat at home package. It was super-economical; we shopped around. For us, this is a new face of Salty's -- usually reserved for those VERY SPECIAL occasions.
We had the turkey and ham combo with mashed potatoes & gravy, dressing (stuffing), roasted winter veggies, dinner rolls with butter, and pumpkin pie. I'm like WOW the ham! Sweet and delicious! WOW, the dressing, what a perfect classic! WOW the gravy! Being from the Midwest, this whole experience for me resonated with decades of wonderful memories elicited by the tastes created by Salty's culinary geniuses.
Here are some pictures, added at the end. They include cheese and dessert that we added to the menu. The pumpkin pie from Salty's came with a special...
Read moreWe recently had our wedding at Salty's, and while the view was stunning and the food was decent, our experience with the management team was truly horrific. We feel compelled to warn anyone considering hosting a life-changing event here to think twice. So many things went wrong throughout the process, and we are incredibly grateful for our wedding coordinator who helped salvage the day. Here are just a few examples of the issues we faced: During the planning phase, communication with Salty's was primarily through email and phone calls since we were not local. Over the course of about 12 months, we were repeatedly assured by the catering manager that we would have a designated changing area for the bride. However, just 2-3 weeks before our wedding, the catering manager was suddenly let go, and Brie, the catering director, became our new contact. Brie provided limited communication and failed to go through all the details with us. On the rehearsal day, which was the day before our wedding, she informed us that there was no room available for the bride to change in. It was incredibly frustrating when she casually suggested that we change outside the restaurant in the open space, as if it were a joke. As a last-minute solution, we had to create a makeshift changing area by sectioning off a part of our wedding space with black cloths. However, it's important to note that there was no door, leaving the bride and groom vulnerable to anyone accidentally walking in. On the day of the wedding, not only did we, as the hosts, find the operations manager, Nikki, to be extremely rude, but we also received multiple complaints from guests about her behavior both during and after the event. As the operations manager, Nikki shouted across the room, causing a scene. To make matters worse, she struggled to get the video and audio system to work, resulting in a 15-minute delay that left us and our guests waiting. In the process, she mistakenly lowered the incorrect projector screen, which hit some of our guests, including children. Her response to this mishap was to laugh and casually say, "Oops, no wonder the one I was on isn't lowering." This level of unprofessionalism was truly disappointing. After the wedding, we compiled a list of approximately 12 complaints and presented them to Brie, the catering director, hoping for a suitable and professional response. However, the response we received from her included counterclaims that what we had said was "untrue." We were taken aback by the denial, especially considering we had provided evidence and witnesses to support our claims. We even have photos of the projector screen incident, showing the impact it had on our guests. In light of our experience, we strongly advise anyone to think twice before choosing Salty's unless there are significant changes made to the management team.
We are not seeking compensation or looking to argue. Our aim is simply to warn others about our experience at Salty's. We hope our story serves as an informative cautionary tale for future event planners. Our main objective is to ensure that people are aware of the challenges they may face with the current...
Read moreTruly a 5 star restaurant in my eyes except for the prices, but you definitely pay for what you get.
First and foremost, the food here is excellent. I have been here twice and both times they have had amazing food. There have been no dishes that have been completely "bad" or "lacking". My favorites however have been the Pan-seared scallops and the Grilled and Glazed Alaskan Sablefish. The Pan-seared scallops are cooked perfectly and have a nice, flavorful, salt-touched crust that complements the tender, fresh scallop on the inside. The sauce was slightly savory and did not overpower any of the core elements of the scallop. The potato cake and the acidic cabbage salad both helped to diversify the flavor profile and give more substance to the overall dish. In other words, I really loved the scallops.
The Grilled and Glazed Alaskan Sablefish was so tender and had extremely prominent yet flavorful notes of soy. I cannot emphasize how perfectly the fish was cooked, and that goes for not only this dish but all the others as well. The soy profile wasn't too overly salty and had a perfect amount of power to only complement the fish and not mask the taste. The fried rice served with it I thought was just okay, but the fish definitely made up for it.
The oysters here were amazing too. They had the perfect amount of brine and were so buttery. I felt like I could have been satisfied from just the oysters. The cocktail sauce and raspberry vinagrette were both great pairings, but I really love to just appreciate the oysters with lemon to get more of their natural taste.
We also got the Grilled Wild King Salmon, Dungeness Crab Stuffed Columbia River Steelhead, and the daily special which was a halibut and lobster dish served with a white sauce and chili oil. All of these dishes were more than decent, but I found the two listed earlier to be better than these. The Steelhead was cooked well along with the Risotto it was served on. Was good but had a light tasting profile. Same with the other dishes mentioned here, which were all cooked nicely but had lighter tasting profiles, which weren't bad by any means and probably better for the more picky eater.
Drinks were great. I loved both the Huckleberry Lemon Drop and Caribbean Cruise. Could barely taste the alcohol. The pear-ginger martini had a sour profile to it but was still good. White mousse cake was also great and not overly sweet.
Service and atmosphere were excellent. Our waiter was more than accommodating and made sure to answer any of our questions. The atmosphere is a bit more on the fine-dining side, but you don't need to dress up if you don't feel pressured to. We came here after our hike in hiking clothes with no issues. The view from the restaurant is amazing too; it overlooks the water with the view of Seattle at night in the background. Additionally, the restaurant was kept very clean was dimly lit to create an inviting atmosphere.
I would most certainly recommend this place and would come back here. Just be aware that it is about $50 per dish, so while it can get expensive, it is still definitely worth it. Be aware that the menu does change from time to...
