This restaurant is extremely prejudiced with people with chronic illness mental health problems. Please contact the Olmsted party you kicked out because I am entering a place called The Center for suicidal depression. Brenda our waitress was the coldest person I've ever met. SHE SPILLED WATER AND Iced tea all over me, and that was my one good outfit. But the manager and Lucas the security guard waiting by the bathroom to kick me out of the restaurant for saying suicidal on Mother's Day. He is imposing, and called me an extremely misogynistic man, who told me I was being hysterical. Hysteria is a term for mentally ill women. He lose his job.The manager took away my Mom's soup she was already served, she is a Type 1 Diabetic and her blood sugar was low. She ended up going into shock after and I had save her fast her blood sugar was so low I was pouring soda pop down her throat. The manager of this restaurant is lethal to me. Brenda our server will forever be a part of my life story, the manager who almost put my coma, and Lucas, who as a Women's Rights advocate should be fired immediately. I felt unsafe all night, and may defer my treatment because of how this affected mental health, with my Mom almost going into a coma on Mother's Day. The hotel apologized and a comped us a night, but how much were our lives work. I also blacked out twice in the middle of the night because I have POTS due to long covid triggered by stress. This is a disgrace. I always remember Brenda with no heart and a manager with no soul just decided to abuse us. Nobody apologized, and I guess my 75 yo Mother had to almost go into a coma or die for these people get rewarded. All three of them almost had blood on their hands, and I may have to forgo treatment I traveled across the country to attend, because Lucas knows where I will be, and I am terrified he will act with vengeance, physically. I do not feel safe in Washington State, and all I did was book a nice dinner for my Mom, who doesn't deserve to eat nutritous food on Mother's Day so thanks for almost putting her in a coma because I told the truth to Brenda as to why we are here, I didn't know talking about suicidal depression, my real life, would traumatize me so badly. Does my Mom's life mean anything to anyone. Not to you three, cruel people. You must be proud of yourselves for putting the straw on the camel's back. I'm terrified of Washington State because of the George. You are reckless ignorant people with no knowledge of Type1 Diabetic in a restaurant, which could prove lethal. Neither of you knew what harmful people you are, playing with fire for two ill people. Thank you for most likely having me go into a super stressed mind, and because I have POTS due to Long Covid, and passed out twice. Should of called an ambulance for documentation. I hope you all have to go to The Center for having people treat you, like garbage, make me mentally as scared as I have ever been in my life. Great job, a waitress and a manager, and a security guard took her food away she was already eating, when she needed it, and caused more chaos and stress, I hope karma finds you. But Lucas needs to go for profiling people with mental health problems and shaming people and not explaining why we were being escorted to our room. I'm terrified he will hurt me at the Center, because he and the restaurant staff have such terrible attitudes my Mom almost went into a coma and you I'm not emotionally fit to go to The Center, because of Brenda with no heart, Lucas obviously, and that lethal manager. Shameful behavior, I don't know how you liars with no soul get constantly rewarded, whilst I was traumatized so badly, I most likely get the help I need. With people like you in the world, I stay in my house scared, because of your clear ignorance and that of everyone at the Fairmont Olympia. The only thing I ate on Sunday was a glass of milk the manager brought up late. Karma and Shame. If anything happens to me, at all I have informed local authorities about him I am so terrified to be...
Read moreI was taken here yesterday for my 32nd birthday. I've been to several tea services, including the Fairmont Empress in BC, and was really looking forward to getting to experience the holiday tea here in Seattle. I would never suggest anyone do this. Despite wanting to eat here so badly, they ruined my birthday.
The staff (Jorge, Anna, and Mackenzie) were all very good and professional (+1 star). They took our complaints in easy stride and did what they could to rectify the situation. Our party of 6 had two vegetarians and one person with a nut allergy, which they easily accommodated (+1 star).
The down sides however, far outweigh the good here. The decor of the place was the same as during the summer, nothing to indicate this is a "holiday tea". No wreaths, trees or anything beyond a small fondant sculpture at the front. The rest of the hotel is overflowing with decorations, but that seems to have stopped at the door to the Georgian. With the architecture and space of the place there was certainly room to do a lot more here (such as anything at all!). Images on their website include a red reindeer napkin holder, and a sprig of holly with berries. I don't know where those were from, but not at the Georgian.
The tea. I want to first say that I know a lot about tea. I go out for tea on a regular basis and there are at least three pots of tea brewed in my home a day. Our party got several types of tea, and they all had a common problem. In our two-cup pots of tea there was about 1/4-1/2 cup of tea leaves. You should never use so much tea. It's wasteful, and makes the tea taste horrid. Tea takes 1 teaspoon for every cup of tea, this isn't coffee. Additionally, there were no tea strainers in the pot to remove the tea once it has reached a perfect steeping. Instead they use a strainer set onto your cup to pour the tea through. I had to send my Earl Grey back to be replaced because it had been both burned and over-steeped to the point that the bitterness made it entirely unpalatable (it was darker in color than black coffee). The second pot had the same problem of too much tea, so while the first cup was ok, the second was horrendously bitter again. The third pot was no longer Earl Grey, but the 1907 blend. It had the same problem of too many tea leaves in the pot but was under-steeped, so I could make it work. Tea can be so good, and it's so sad that a place known for its tea service doesn't know how to brew it. My wife also had to send her pot of 1907 blend back for a new one due to bitterness, and the rest of the table also complained about their tea being so bitter they couldn't drink it either.
The comestibles also left something to be desired. The scones were very sweet, so it came off as us eating a dessert, then a small savory snack, then more dessert. I can usually overlook that since it's a common trend with scones. Yet the tea sandwiches were abysmally lackluster. There were four bites of savory comestibles per person (roughly 3/4-inch in size). The lack of culinary balance here was felt by the entire party, who asked when the savories would be arriving. The entire party was still hungry for real food after the service concluded, which is something I've never experienced at any other tea service I've been to before.
We were highly confused at the end of the meal since this was supposed to be their holiday tea. What made it a holiday tea? I've looked at images of their regular tea service ($35) and it appears we had the same experience (for $65)!
I'm highly disappointed in what we experienced and sincerely hope that the person(s) who run the establishment take my review seriously enough to make drastic changes to the service. The Georgian has so much potential, and it feels like it was...
Read moreThe ambiance is inviting and elegant, vintage Hollywood-esque the restaurant feels like Marilyn Monroe might walk in at any moment. In a slightly separate room from The Olympic bar, the restaurant is quiet, with a buzz of lively grandeur in the air. I love that the wait staff suggests family style because you will want to taste everything you can. My server Heidi was so knowledgeable, engaging and so much fun. She started by asking about dietary restrictions and guided me through the menu by described three or four of her favorite dishes and answered all questions I had. Chef Cullen exceeded all expectations, I was lucky and was able to try many different dishes. The entire menu is such a great representation of Washington's summer produce used in such creative ways, and with a unique twist. Raw geoduck and salmon crudo were so full of bright life, a great way to start off the meal. You cannot miss the salmon, such a simple sounding dish filled with different complex flavors, and textures. The texture of the puffed rice was a great addition for the geoduck and makes it fun to eat. Cucumber and peach salad was bright with complimentary contradicting flavors of the small bit of calabrian chili, and deep notes from the fermented plum vinegar. The beef tartare melts in your mouth~ don't think about it. Just order it! Octopus is tender, complimented by a little pops of mustard seeds, the spicy sea bean puree with crispy potatoes rounds out the dish. Scallops are huuuuuge and perfectly cooked, seared on both side made the perfect crunch with the delicately meaty interior, paired with pork belly, the freshly diced peaches kept the whole dish so light. The XO sauce on top could be put on anything and it would make it taste delicious. The halibut was good, but compared to the other dishes, not great. Straightforward, tomato and green beans, squash blossoms, while beautiful the blossoms did not add much to the taste of the dish. It was cooked well, but lacking something in the complexity of it. Duck was another high note, it is on the sweeter side. The smoked cherries were my favorite part, adding a great umami flavor in each bite. Foie rice, can't go wrong with! Done perfectly, served beautifully the fresh stone fruit slices brightened the whole dish. Finished off dinner with the chocolate gateau, so rich and creamy, candied nuts and banana cut through the sweetness and ended the experience perfectly.
Guest service all around was great, every staff member I talked to was so personable and professional. After the meal Heidi not only agreed to take pictures but helped get the best possible one. Will definitely be back! Excited to watch this restaurant grow and see what Chef Thomas comes up with...
