Beautiful hotel, concierge was highly competent and friendly. Unfortunately, the well-preserved 1930s decor also means much of the facility runs as well as you'd expect maintained 87-year old equipment to run. Specifically, though the elevators run fine, the floor numbers will occasionally display incorrectly; don't be alarmed! In addition, though we were told that as guests of the inn we would have access to athletic facilities (floors 4-8), some staff on some of those floors were very vague and uninformative when asked questions by other guests of the inn. Though no misleading information was given to me, another guest was told by the women's gym receptionist that there was no other gym equipment other than that and the 8th floor basketball court, when in fact the 4th floor is a coed equipment space. Due to the lack of assistance from reception, you definitely need to put in the extra effort to explore the space, but it pays off if you do. Finally, note that the rooms vary in size, to the point where the same "1 bed king" can range from barely larger than the size of the bed (our room) to a spacious living room with a bed in it. The rooms are well stocked with the standard bedding and bathroom toiletries (including hair and body washes and hairdryer), plus some extra (cotton balls/swabs, facial tissues [Kleenex]). No microwave nor fridge, which is problematic for long stays, but they do have a Keurig. Would not stay again for extended stays, but may consider for...
Read moreCozy, comfortable rooms with nice decor, in an athletic club. Alexa in every room. Shower has setting to switch to jets that aim at your body. Fast response to calls for maintenance. No refrigerator in room. Wifi was excellent: easy to log into, fast and reliable. Number of electrical outlets: 4 in room, and no USB outlets which is fine but I tend to expect more. Location: close access to convention center, light rail is a few easy blocks away. Across the street from a good pizza place. But for real variety in restaurants, you need to walk 6-10 blocks. Being at an athletic club, I figured this would be a way to do lots of exercise while traveling, but here are some caveats: Hours: Athletic facilities close at 8 pm, compared to hotel gyms that are often 24 hrs. The pool also has classes so you need to check hours for free lap swim. More facilities, yes: most hotel gyms are comparable to home gyms, while this is a regular gym. Compared to my 24 Hr. Fitness and LA Fitness, this has comparable amount and variety of weight lifting equipment. I guess given their decor I assumed they would have more. They do separate men and women, so there is more than meets the eye. Free use of pool, sauna, jacuzzi (though the jacuzzi was out of order when I went). But $20 / day to use the weight lifting areas. There are ball courts and indoor track and such that I didn't have access to but I didn't check out what it...
Read moreThe hotel is clean, I’ll give it that. The staff are mostly friendly. It is in a VERY good area.
However, the room I have stayed in has no refrigerator or microwave which is a huge inconvenience having come for a convention. I am forced to eat out for EVERY MEAL with no leftovers because for some reason a fridge is not included in the room? It’s fine I guess, but it has blown my trip over budget.
The other thing is the TV. For whatever reason, they’ve disabled the tv from switching inputs. Being here for a gaming convention, I was looking forward to casting my switch to the tv so my friend and I could play after long convention days. Nope. Although the tv HAS AN HDMI PORT, the remote has no option to switch inputs and the tv has no buttons. When I asked about this, I was told all of the tvs have been disabled from having external input. The only thing you can do is google cast. Which has worked 1/3 of the nights I have been here. Despite going through all troubleshooting and attempting from three separate devices, the tv just won’t connect. Guess we’ll all just huddle around my switch with nothing in the background. Cool.
Also I came on a holiday weekend and hours were very limited. Don’t people travel more on holidays? Yet I have to have a subpar experience in an already stressful travel time. Still three stars for cleanliness, friendliness, and location. Everything else is...
