Update 2024 Went to the new restaurant. The ladies were pleasant, the service was good, prices current with the fluctuations of the food service industry, professional packaging. I would like to see the name of the restaurant generate when i put it into Google, or use the address. A takeaway menu and business cards would also be helpful. The injera was good. The tibbs were tasty, loved the sauce that soaked into the injera, would have enjoyed smaller bite size pieces and less chewy. One more visit to try the Tibbs Firfir and Green Chicken. Gomen was prepared using Collards, flavorful but al dentè. Collards are strong and take time to prepare. For a braised or sautéed green, using spinach works better. Salad was excellent. I am appreciative and have changed my mindset from finding a go to restaurant to, perfecting my own dishes with my family at home.
My family and I have been eating at this restaurant since it opened. I have taken family and friends, from out of town, to eat here. The owners are like family and everyone is greeted with such warmth. My usual is the veggie combo and tibbs. When we want to mix it up, we order the green chicken and fried fish... Awesome, Fabulous, Tasty I really appreciate the owners and all the wonderful dishes they...
Read moreI had a strong appetite for Eastern African cuisine and searched somewhere in the Seattle area with good ratings. My husband and I got lucky that the day we checked out this restaurant, they were celebrating a family activity. It was very endearing how they welcomed and serviced us, even bringing us cake from their celebration.
It felt aesthetically unassuming and their customer service was very attentive and sweet. We appreciated their help when going over the menu and selecting the right options. We went with a softer textured meat (can’t remember the name of the plate) and the Veggie Combo.
My husband cannot eat very spicy food, so finding less spicy food options can be a bit tricky. For example, please note that the salad comes with jalapeños. This would have been good to know in advance since we did not expect that.
They have a section with a pool table. Again, quite modest in aesthetic but it looks like it is a family-friendly option where they put on their own celebratory events.
Very...
Read moreI came to Chef Cafe regularly for 12 years, usually for the veggie combo, lamb tibs, kategna, or foul. Their foul and their gomen wot were the best versions I have ever had of those dishes, and were among the best foods I have eaten in my whole life. I tried to stop there last weekend to get some takeout foul for breakfast, but their phone number was disconnected, and when I got there I saw inside had been gutted. I saw someone walking around inside, maybe doing some demo work, so I knocked on the door and asked what happened. He told me the family who ran it retired. I'm not sure how much he actually knew, though—he may have just been a contractor working for the landlord.
I hope the family who ran this place knows how much joy they brought me over the years. I will remember Chef...
