My wife and I ate here on vacation. From the start, it was obvious that this is a popular restaurant. Parking was tight and we did have to put our names on a list and wait a few minutes before being seated. We were seated by one staff member, then our orders were taken by a second staff member, our mimosas (pictured) were delivered by a third staff member, and then our food was delivered by the second staff member, who later checked in with us to make sure everything was ok and delivered our bill at the same time. This decreased the amount of personal interaction that we had with our servers, but I presume that this style of service is necessary to maintain high throughput on busy weekend mornings.
The menu is somewhat overwhelming. There are literally about 100 different omelets that can be ordered. However, many of these are 3+ variations on an omelet with a base ingredient (the ones that stand out in my mind are salmon, which I had, and imitation crab, however there are more conventional ingredients as well). They have many other dishes as well, so theoretically there will be something for everyone.
The mimosas are interesting. You are given a glass of orange juice, a miniature bottle of champagne (I think 6-8 ounces) and a third glass in which you make your own mimosa. I’m not sure if this is due to wide variation in how people prefer their mimosas to be made, or if it is a way of further offloading kitchen staff so that they can focus on food rather than drinks. I think the latter is more likely. Similarly, a pitcher of water is left at the table so that servers do not need to refill glasses.
I had the smoked salmon, onion, and cream cheese omelet while my wife had a vegetable omelet to which she added sausage. She enjoyed the omelet, as well as the rolls that come with the food. My omelet was good, but the salmon was distributed somewhat unevenly. I think I would have enjoyed some additional vegetables in it in retrospect. I agree that the roll was good, and at every table is a selection of jellies, jams, and marmalade.
Overall, I enjoyed our meal here and think the food was above average. However, I do think that some of the service falls short with the emphasis on high efficiency. By the time we had walked to the front and I had paid our bill, they had cleaned our table and another couple was seated where we had been eating. I don’t think we were particularly slow in finishing our meals and departing once we were done. The demand is just that great for breakfast here, and the hectic undercurrent affects the entire dining experience. So I guess this is a place that I enjoyed eating at, but I didn’t get the sense that I could relax and enjoy spending time here, if that makes sense. For me, that prevents a five star review. Still, I think it’s worth stopping by and trying one of the many items...
Read moreOur experience here has been one of the worst. We come here many times a year as our family lives here....... louann is the absolute worst!!!! We have never encountered such disrespect. We came here as we always do speaking with amiel many times. We love this place. Every person we encounter is lovely. But this time we were greeted by louann who rolled her eyes at us and slammed menu's on our table and gave us more attitude then we've ever encountered. She even went so far as to tell the cook staff about us. We know this because we know the staff. And they told us about it and they were concerned enough to remake our food!!!!! I went to the bathroom. And as I walked by louann and her new trainey, they both pointed at me.....wth!!! Our food came out gross and cold and not correct. Which we have never encountered. We spoke to many of the workers as they know us after many years of supporting this establishment, every single one told us how much they dispise this woman and they totally agree with how she was treating us cause she does it on a daily basis... . While checking out, I brought all this up to her as I manage 1000 employees in Phoenix and my wife is a district manager in a very well known restaurant in Phoenix and she laughed and Said your right I did that. ....no apology or reason why she acted this way. I was disgusted....... we will not return until this is rectified. Thank God our waitress was amazing (Amanda)... if this continues this place will loose very valuable customers. We are so shocked and saddened by this experience. ....... hopefully amiel and Damien fix...
Read moreReally one of the premier diners in America. Overwhelmingly positive feelings about this place.
PROS GIGANTIC omelette menu, 101 options!! This is unprecedented. Many vegetarian options, anyone can eat here Probably the best diner menu I have ever seen They leave a pot of coffee and a pitcher of water at your table FABULOUS murals, artwork, & atmosphere Amanda was my waitress. She was legitimately excited about the biscuits; she was also engaged with the kiddos at the next table, which was super cute; also she kept a close eye on me even when I was done eating, but also left me alone and in peace at my table-for-one in the corner. A+ reading the room. Price matches portion Home fries were superb, with herbs and well-sautéed onions; Potatoes are my least favorite part of breakfast, but I ate them all No music playing in the house; to this tired career musician, that is a pro
CONS Paper towel dispenser too close to the back of the door in the women’s restroom, worried I would get hit Metal restroom dividers make terrifying noises if you bump them, almost peed before I could sit down Popular and busy (especially if you catch it on a holiday, like me) Dairy half-and-half creamers only No public wifi network Closes early
NOTES = Air conditioned and windowless, bring a hoodie just in case = Connected gift shop while you wait for your table; also some shaded outdoor space for comfortable waiting = Really cool mugs = Will return in the future, and invite friends,...
