Stopped into Desert Rat during a recent trip to Sedona and was shocked by how unpleasant the experience was. The store has a quirky name and a decent variety of souvenirs, but the customer service is best described by the stores name “rat”.
The owner was incredibly rude—he actually yelled at my family who stood “too long” near the back of the store. No one was being loud, disruptive, simple looking at the items he had in the store. Yet he acted as if we were doing something wrong just by being there. And picking up the items he had for sale. It created a tense, uncomfortable atmosphere, and our family who was going to bring 4 other families decide to take our business elsewhere.
In a tourist town like Sedona, you’d expect a little hospitality, or at the very least, basic respect. Sadly, this shop seems more interested in chasing people away than welcoming them. I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time or money here.

Read moreWow — what a charming little shop… if your idea of a good time is being scolded like a child and glared at for daring to walk in with anyone under the age of 18. The owner clearly missed his calling as a hall monitor or drill sergeant — he seems to believe it’s his personal mission to discipline other people’s kids and make everyone feel unwelcome. Can someone say anger management counseling?
It’s honestly impressive how consistently rude one person can be. And if you look at the other one-star reviews, you’ll notice a trend: instead of taking any responsibility, the owner fires back with snarky replies trying to flip the blame on the customer. Because obviously, everyone else is wrong and he’s just a misunderstood saint.
There are dozens of souvenir shops in town (with better quality items I might add). Go literally anywhere else if you want a pleasant experience and don’t feel like being shamed...

This was the first place we stopped in during our weekend roadtrip from LA and it was such a warm welcome to the beautiful town of Sedona. Everything is so reasonably priced and they were definitely the lowest prices we saw in town. We got all of our souvenir and goodies shopping out of the way here — there is such a wide range of things that you can get stuff for everyone, from an older parent to young teenagers to fashionable ladies to people who like to collect knives. We met Richie and his wife and he is quite literally the nicest person! He gave us a map of town and gave us recommendations on where to eat and sight seeing to do. I can’t recommend this...
