Absolutely wonderful little motel! It does have a vintage feel to it, but everything is super clean and works great. The beds were very comfy with really nice blankets. Water pressure for showers was great, too. Plus there was a microwave and decent sized minifridge. I know the lodge was fully booked while we were there and you're relatively close to the road, but noise was never an issue. The front desk staff were amazing and gave us such great food recommendations, plus really fun conversation! The pool was closed while we were there in November, but the hot tub and two fire places were open! Nothing better after a long hike than a hot soak to relax the muscles, then a cold drink in front of a fire. They also do offer a very basic yet yummy continental breakfast for free.
You really cannot beat the location - it's within walking distance to a large supermarket, several yummy restaurants, and even a laundromat. Plus it's only a 5 min drive to one of the park shuttle lots, meaning you can skip the battle of finding parking at the major popular trails, or just drive 2 min to find several less popular but still amazing trails with beautiful views. You're also just down the road from local art markets, souvenir shops, a movie theater, cheaper gas, Sedonuts (get the vortex cinnamon roll!), the Coffeepot restaurant (amazing waffles!), and Thunder Mountain bike rentals. You'll definitely hit traffic going into downtown Sedona if you want to visit those shops, so while it's a short distance it is a longer (slow) drive, but well worth the trade off.
We definitely loved staying here and when we one day come back to Sedona, we'll stay at the...
Read moreEasily the worst customer experience I have ever received. I would recommend anyone wishing to stay here to exercise caution.
I wanted to stay at the Sugar Loaf Lodge and had received an email stating I had 48 hours to make a payment. I called in advance to pay over the phone as despite the supposed 48 hours allowed, I received an email stating that my payment had declined. I thought it best to pay in advance just to be safe. Upon calling the lodge the man on the phone was extremely rude and blunt. I put more money into the account and asked if he could charge it again.
A couple hours later I noticed the card had not been charged so I called up again to try and communicate this with the hotel. The man on the phone did not listen to anything I said and instead kept interrupting me by saying my reservation had been cancelled. He said I needed to have made the payment two hours earlier. This is not what was communicated in the email nor over the previous phone call. When I asked if there was anything I could do about it and if it were possible to make a new reservation since the hotel still had vacancy, the man hung up on me.
I emailed the lodge with proof of the email and received no reply.
This was extremely stressful as we were concerned we would not have a place to stay that night as it was over the busy Thanksgiving period. Fortunately we were able to stay at Aiden by Western which had far better facilities offered and at a lower price, so things worked out well...
Read moreThis is the only place I stay when I'm in Sedona. Family owned which is a rarity in lodging anymore. The building's always looked great and this time my room looked nearly new. I got to enjoy long soaks in the pool and spa (which was more comfortable than the typical 104 degrees) and chatting with the family members. Be sure to ask Thor or one of the others for tips on local hikes that can quickly get you some tremendous views. The location in West Sedona is within walking distance of just about any kind of food, drink* or retailer that you'd want and is away from the maddening crowds in the overly-busy tourist areas to the east. Even so, there's quick access to that part of the town if you're looking for things like crystals, t-shirts or costly souvenirs. *If you like spirits, try the Redwall Lounge a little bit south of the lodge. They do their own distilling and have nice views from the open-air seating. For beers, check out Oak Creek Brewing just a 5-minute walk on the other side of the shopping center. At both places you'll probably need to bring...
