I don’t really like to post negative reviews but I felt obligated to post this after the service I received here. I came here for thanksgiving dinner with my sister and the night started off pretty well. We were greeted nicely and we thought it was going to be a pleasant experience. Unfortunately it was not the case. Throughout the night, I slowly got impression that I got was that we were subtly treated worse than other patrons due to the fact that we were from Asian descent (although I felt this was isolated to our waitress)
It took us about 10 minutes for the server to greet us and take our order. She started off taking our drink order. Another couple sat next to us about 10 minutes later and their drinks were served immediately.
When I asked for water, it took close to 20 - 25 minutes to get my water. The water then came in a small whiskey glass filled to the brim with ice. I could clearly see that other patrons had a “normal” sized glass.
We had to follow up with our waiter in order to receive our food. The other patrons (the one’s that came after us) had their food a good 15 minutes before ours. When we asked our waiter on the food, we were met with a passive aggressive attitude where she claimed that she “didn’t know what the kitchen staff was doing.” We only got our food when we asked for the check early and decided to wait instead of walking out. (In retrospect we should have walked out.)
If only one or two of these events occurred, I could chalk it up as an honest mistake, but this seemed like a reoccurring theme through the night
All in all, it took what was going to be a “nice thanksgiving dinner” and turned it into a very unpleasant experience.
But credit where credit is due: the butternut squash soup was really good. Soup is...
Read moreOk, is this the best food and dining experience in Sedona? No. If you are a tourist, this isn't high-end, and your expectations will disappoint if you dont lower them. If you are local and you don't like tourists check it out.
First, the service is excellent. I have read reviews that they were bad and unprofessional. That is not what we have experienced over the years. The hostesses have been wonderful, and our server, Matt, was great. Dont fall for the Alice (the owner)is in the kitchen speech, she is always in the kitchen ex wednesdays.
Second, the food is solid, good, home cooking. If you are looking for fine cuisine, forget it. This is Mom's cooking. Fresh and tasty, and with a little love. Plenty to choose from, we like to go with the pastas and stay away from the steaks. The portions have gotten smaller all over Sedona, and this is the case here. Desserts are just ok, but you can't go wrong with the ice cream.
Third, the atmosphere is great. Is the place dated? You bet! Old tables with no tablecloths and no views. BUT! They have live music that is appropriate and fun. Not to loud, and you can play name that tune. These guys were fun and they appreciated that we appreciated them! The place is comfortable and if you like that, I think you will like this.
Conclusion, it is not the Hudson, it is not Mariposa, or Dahl and Deluca, or many others in Sedona. But if you are looking for a nice local night out, with good food, a nice and inviting atmosphere, a decent value, and nice people around you, open your mind, lower your inflated expectations of what all restaurants should be (and yourself for that...
Read moreThis place is AMAZING. If you want old school, good food and intimate service this is the place. It is what Sedona used to be. We really wanted something outside of the hipster California-investor-owned restaurants and this is definitely it. After Covid hit, so many high profile people came in and bought all the cool places, yet this place is still standing. Maybe it’s because they legit gave away toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and masks (with their food) just to keep going for their regulars. That’s dedication.
The decor is unique and cool , which makes the ambiance cozy and the people who run this place are INCREDIBLE. There are definitely local patrons who are favorites, but they treat the newbies just like the OGs. And the “locals” are sweet and welcoming. I just love this place.
For eats I recommend the homemade soups, fall-of-the-bone ribs and the people around us seemed to come for the “fish and chips”. The desserts are ridiculously good. SO GOOD. I walked from my hotel one night just to get one.
I have been to Sedona only 5 times but this is BY FAR my favorite place.
I highly recommend having a drink at the bar (or a few?) and getting some food to-go with a blanket or some chairs and seeing the sunset at the Sedona scenic airport outlook. I think it’s like $3 to park. Perfect day. Legit…perfect day.
This place makes me want to come back. It’s 100 percent - a happy place. Thank you Andre and Mama. ❤️
And I love that they don’t have WI-FI. Use this time to enjoy each...
