Our daughter Emma just turned 16 and I was wondering what to get her for a gift. I asked her what she wanted and she really didn’t have anything. I thought maybe an “experience” would be a neat gift vs another “thing” if it wasn’t going to be a car with a big red bow. We had a trip planned for Sedona and I started looking for “things to do” there. I came across The Melting Point and they offer a glass sculpting class for beginners. So I booked it. We arrived and were greeted in a friendly manner and taken into the studio. Chris was our instructor and we chatted a bit and got to know each other. Then he gave a demo of what we would make with him. He explained the different techniques as he dipped his rod into molten glass and shaped it. Then dipped it into some hard crystal type glass to give it color and melted it and shaped it. He quickly formed it into a gooey flower as he pulled the petals with large tweezers. Remelting, pulling, and turning until he was satisfied with the results. Then it was our turn. Emma was so excited we let her go first. She picked her color and Chris helped her every step of the way. She had a big grin on her face. Then Ella went and made her bright teal flower. It was Tom’s turn and he let Emma make another flower instead. She was so happy and grateful. She made a pretty yellow flower since that is Tom’s favorite color. I offered to let her make mine too, but she insisted I go. So I picked a rainbow of colors for mine. When we were all done, we asked Chris about glass blowing and he was happy to demo that process. He made a clear glass vase and told us we could keep that too. The glass had to harden and cure so we picked them up a few days later. We were all pleased with our work and have the glass flowers and an awesome family...

We visited the Melting Point while at Sedona for kids' spring break. The Melting Point offers a unique and enjoyable experience (Age 7+). I booked our session a few weeks in advance. There is a $50 booking deposit, and the total project cost ranges from $100 to $225, with the deposit being deducted from the final amount.

Each participant can choose one from seven items, including a glass, two types of bowls, a paper weight, a flower, a cactus, and a pot. While the choices may seem limited, each piece turns out beautifully, and the process of creating it is captivating to watch. Our instructor, Greg, was incredibly patient and kind, answering the questions of our curious 9-year-old and 7-year-old.

There were 5 people in our session, allowing us to observe the projects of others as well. Seeing each person's unique creation was fascinating, so you won’t get bored. We chose to create paperweights for the kids, and they enjoyed selecting colors, molding the liquid glass into a ball, poking them to make an air bubble, and finally cutting it. Each project takes about half an hour, and the finished pieces will be ready the next day. Be sure to plan accordingly. If you cannot pick up your project, they can arrange courier delivery at an additional cost.

The workshop is kid-friendly, clean, safe, wheelchair accessible, has free parking, and provides safety goggles for everyone. It should be on your list if you want a unique experience that will create a memory and a...

If you're looking for a way to express your inner artsy self, you must check out glass-blowing classes here. We signed up for a class where you get a chance to select from several different pieces. I made a glass tumbler and my boyfrienddid a cactus. They walk you thru safety first, then show you how to make the piece. You can pick your colors and they help you with each step. The finished item gets fired overnight and you pick it up (or they can send it to you) the next day. We were very pleased with the end results. Jordan and Austin are really friendly and great advocates of their featured artists and Sedona in general.Their attention to service and detail was very appreciated. Check out the amazing pieces in their gallery, you can find some unique treasures to treat yourself or gift someone special. This would make a great event for families with teenagers, a group of friends, a birthday, or other celebration. We have been back multiple times and Chris is our favorite instructor. He's patient, knowledgeable and clearly passionate...
