Edit 8/8/2024: after taking several months of a break, I decided to give them another shot. I’ve gone twice this month and both times the food was PERFECT. Exactly as described, full of flavor, spicy level 1 was amazing and just like it used to be but also felt there was more flavor. Thank you guys for making the necessary changes as I’ve missed having a solid Indian place so close, and I’ve missed my paneer kadai so much. Had it today and was thrilled. Looking forward to being a regular customer once again!!
Orginal: So. I have ordered takeout at Mt Everest for years, it used to be one of the most consistent local places and I love all of the different vegetarian options! It's been amazing to have in town, and I always love supporting local businesses that are not of the typical chain/boring American food variety.
However, Im not sure what's changed as of recently, if it's the kitchen staff or management or recipes or what, but it's been really different and very disappointing. Everyone is so kind and the place is as clean as always, but the quality and taste of the same dishes I've been ordering and loving for years have been tasteless and disappointing and vastly lower in quality lately.
Ive always swapped between the Aloo curry and the paneer kadai, and the 3 times I've had it recently (last 6 weeks or so), both dishes have been bland and flavorless. Today for the rice, it was totally plain rice instead of the typical rice with herbs I've been served LITERALLY every single other time I've ordered here.
The paneer kadai has been two entirely different dishes the last two times I've ordered it. The first was an almost inedible and tasteless red sauce with broccoli and tomatoes but no bell peppers, truly unsure what the mix up was there, so tried it again today hoping for what it used to be. Today, the sauce was bland (better than last time but nothing like it used to be), and it only had a total of 3 small pieces of multi colored bell peppers, and again broccoli which isn't listed as a part of the meal. It used to be a great mix of the paneer and the red and green bell peppers and onions. Truly I just miss how that meal used to be so so much, definitely confused about the changes. I also feel like the garlic naan has been way tougher than usual and I haven't been able to tear it apart as easily.
I've always ordered at a spicy 1 because anything above that used to be too much for me, I'm not super tolerant of very spicy foods, and tried spice levels up to 3 a long time ago to determine what I liked best and settled at 1. Previously, the food was consistent and full of flavor and not bland at all even when it was mild, but now I'm wondering if that entire spice ranking system has changed along with the recipes.
Idk I'm just sad about one of my favorite places for years tasting SO MUCH different and for the worse, I was hoping it was a one off situation and wouldn't have posted this review were it not for the three negative takeout experiences in a row. Again, I love this place and have eaten here for a really long time and it was so consistent and one of my comfort places to eat, but it's just been so disappointing and it will likely be a long while until I order here again which is a shame. I'm not going to rate it any lower because I have loved it for so long, and I will be holding out hope for the quality, flavor, and...
Read moreI had been dying to try the new Mt Everest Restaurant. Finally ordered some Chicken Vindaloo to go, as I was craving extra spicy Indian food. I begged for extra spicy and not a dumbed-down Sherman extra spicy. I went to pickup and asked if it was going to burn me as I requested. The gentleman asks the chef and the chef grabbed my container and went back to the kitchen to remake it “max spicy”. First strike, but glad it was being resolved. I get home and taste it. It tastes NOTHING like Vindaloo. It was sweet tasting, like a bell pepper kind of sweet. Also, it still wasn’t that spicy at all. And there were chunks of potato in it. I’ve been eating Vindaloo for many years and never had any even remotely like this. I did see serrano peppers in the dish, but they were mild. Several hours later, it gave me the runs. I was planning to try and eat the remainder of it that next day, but not after that. They either left the chicken out at room temp too long or someone didn’t wash their hands. I feel like I paid $16 for naan. The only thing(s) I enjoyed was the garlic naan and some little container of some “pickles” they gave me to try. Not sure if I’ll give them another chance after that experience. The staff was friendly, but it didn’t appear that they were doing much to avoid any of the virus spreading except for one person who had a mask on. There was no social distancing and a woman from the kitchen walked by me so close, she almost rubbed against me. I’m high risk, so it made me nervous. Anyway, if you’re looking for Vindaloo, go south on 75, closer to DFW. It’s sad. Sherman needs more culture and ethnic restaurants, but not more bad food. We have too much bad food here already. I’m hoping they improve. I don’t want...

We have been lovers of Indian Cuisine for many years, but the Texoma Region left us suffering from international restaurant poverty, having to settle for grabbing Indian food on the occasional trip to Dallas. Suffer no more!!
We were delighted to learn that Mt Everest had opened in Sherman! Desperately hoping for success we checked it out and were delighted to learn that we no longer need to invent trips to Dallas for Indian food, we can get equal or better quality right here near home!!!
Wish we hadn't all dived right in quite so fast (without thinking to take pictures for all of you internet people) but it was so beautiful it would bring a tear to your eye ;-) at least when you've been starved for good Indian food for over a year, as we had been!
Our party of 7 was seated immediately, the staff was friendly and courteous, with good COVID hygiene (masks, gloves where appropriate, etc.), clean dining area, good food presentation, and a several page long wonderfully varied menu. We'll be back (again and again!) to continue to plumb the depths of that beautiful menu!
Among our party, I overheard a few of the dishes ordered: like butter lamb, chicken tikka masala, vindaloo chicken, chicken biryani, and tandoori chicken, everyone from kids to adults said they were great! Even the extras like the naan and mango lassi were spot on.
Please, do yourself a favor and check this out immediately and then tell all of your friends to do the same!!! We need this place in Texoma, so let's make sure it's growing and...
