Don't trust 5-star reviews? Neither do I; but, c'mon, what rating would you give to a restaurant that provided everything you expected PLUS fresh, home-made carrot cake?
In this pandemic age my partner and I have not been to a restaurant since January, 2020 - over a year of take-out, take-out and more take-out. And cooking at home is great, we try to make it fun, but it gets SO BORING! We both have been fortunate throughout this emotional time to have been privileged to volunteer at our local medical clinic to help distribute the COVID19 vaccinations to folks in our hometown. That meant getting the shot too. We are so grateful.
We wanted to celebrate, so, because we like Jimmy's Tavern & Grill we chose to reacquaint ourselves with this old friend! What a great choice! (I'd like to say also that I have never worked in the restaurant business and really, really appreciate all the hard work, extraordinary hours and dedication it takes to stay in business just to feed us hoards of hungry Americans everyday!!)
OK, Major foody notes: We had called ahead for reservations and had no problem being seated immediately even though we arrived a half hour early. The mixed drink menu and selection of local draught beers is focused on quality, not quantity. So choosing is easy. I started with the 20 oz. Wormtown 'Be Hoppy' IPA, always a pleaser. My date had "The Wild Thing" a tequila mixed drink served in a mason jar - looked and tasted scrumptious! We splurged on an appetizer (not usual for us). We had a quartet of large seafood-stuffed mushrooms served piping hot. Delicious and just enough to whet our appetite. Our entrées were the NY Strip steak and the 9 oz. Filet Mignon both perfectly cooked to our personalized liking. We were amazed at the quality and tenderness of our choices. Jimmy's is renowned for their steaks and tips. I don't know much about their procurement and handling details, all I can tell you it's the best steak I've had. EVER. We almost passed on dessert because we couldn't finish our meal. I took a chance and asked for the home-made carrot cake to take home with us. Was I in for a treat today!!! So moist, filled with fruity goodness and actual carrots (I detest the supermarket version of carrot cake which is really more of a spice cake - no carrots- and always a dry disappointment.) it was heavenly! For a great break from the pandemic restaurant-fast get to Jimmy's when it's safe for you to do so. You will be...
Read moreI dined at Jimmy's with my family tonight. The food was good and my waiter was a great young man but the rest of the wait staff openly made fun of me in front of my family and other customers. I have a severe cardiac condition (vEDS) and had my service dog with me. My dog is very professional and perfectly trained at cardiac alert tasks, public behavior and always us groomed before we leave to keep her tidy. She always wears her vest in public. She does still wear an "in training" tag because we're adding new tasks. She slept under the table quietly the whole meal and heeled at my side any time we moved. She was so well behaved that the table behind me and my waiter commented as we were leaving that they had no idea my dog was there. When I got to the front though on my way out the girls at the front, 4-5 of the wait staff, looked at us and started loudly complaining to each other "There is a time and a place for dogs and this isnt it" - They went on to complain that my dog had hair flying everywhere and it was unsanitary. This is untrue, she was groomed before leaving today and stayed still the whole time so there is no way she was unsanitary or even a nuisance. I went back to the desk and said "I dont know which of you said that but I have a cardiac condition." The family behind me told me good for me for standing up for myself and said the girls were very rude.
Much of the staff obviously needs sensitivity training about how to treat people with disabilities as well as Americans with Disabilities Act compliance training. Disabled people do all they can to be able to live our lives without being a burden on our families, friends or the public. We don't need to be embarrassed by people that should know better when we try to live our lives.
I wont be eating here again and due to the treatment, I discourage disabled people dining here, especially if you rely on a service...
Read moreVery delicious menu variety. Food is cooked to order. A member of the wait staff will serve your party a basket of sliced warm sourdough bread with a small cup of soft butter, if you ask. All food items on the menu are delicious; including desserts. The menu has a good variety of appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, and, of course, desserts. There are specials on the menu every day. There are alcoholic beverages including some exotic drinks as well as beers and wines available only to people who are eligible to order them. Prices are moderate & the portions are of a good size. If you leave there still hungry, it's because you didn't eat everything on your plate. Always notify your server if anyone in your party has food allergies. They will accommodate so that there won't be any problems. Also, you may request substitutions for your side dish, especially if you have any food allergies. All servers are polite, accurate in the food you order like how you like it prepared. The people who accompany me are always pleased with the food and service. My husband and I are never disappointed and like to plan to come again to try something different from the menu. There is usually a waiting list but it's usually a short time to wait. Part of the restaurant is a bar for waiting for a table. There were 4 members to our party & we had no waiting for our table. One of us had short ribs, another had salmon and my husband and I tried Texas burgers of good proportion. Our friends ordered a hot fudge sundae which they split the large size. There were no complaints except we joked that our stomachs weren't big enough to have more of our meals. Our server gave each of us take home containers. The restaurant also offers takeout meals. I highly recommend...
