My recent visit to Plaza Mexico Restaurant Bar & Grill left me with mixed feelings, as I encountered both impressive highlights and a minor drawback. However, I can confidently say that it was an overall enjoyable dining experience.

We arrived as a big group and we let the host CRYSTAL know that it was ok to seat us differently we didn’t need a big table just to sit us as they could separate tables while we waited 1 hr and 30 min she sat family after family down as they arrived when I went to ask her what was going on she would continuously tell us it was an hr wait . As we were waiting she was training a new girl and bless that new girls heart CRYSTAL was obnoxious and very rude to the new girl and would treat her like a child clapping and waving her hand “ si lo hiciste bien “ “ que si no lo haces bien tendré que echarte de cabeza y ami no me gusta hacer así “ she was belittling the new girl and we just felt bad for her. Once again we asked her how much longer and she rolled her eyes and said “ ya les dije k una hora más oh menos “ and I told her we had been waiting for more the that and once again we told her that we were fine w five diferente tables it was five family’s she ignored us and continued to speak to the other waiter , we had purchased some beers while we waited and one was accidentally dropped and it shattered it was an honest mistake and could happen to any one I had children around me so I picked up some glass and put it in the bucket and I can hear her moving the crown be saying “ aver quítense quítense and with her hand shewing the crowd around me and as I stood up she put her hand on me and said “quítate “ in a rude way I looked at her and said excuse me you could be polite and say con permiso no sea grosera y mal educada she rolled her eyes and left the mess to go get a broom or mop and at this point we were being seated and she was standing w a broom complaining to the other staff pointing fingers at us … and the staff just stared at us . She was by far the worst host I have ever encountered and she should’ve been better trained it’s upsetting that she was training anther when she is incapable of...

Service was rough. Got the vibe that our server didn’t like us or her job, or either. Management seemed really nice and friendly.. and were working harder than the some of wait staff and cleaning and greeting people a ton. The food is mostly great, but some items are straight up not worth the price, like the queso fundido. The menu is huge, but incoherent and with little description, but the photos are great. The black beans are amazing and so was the Pollo Relleno. I love refried beans at all Mexican restaurants, but they were not flavorful. Many things don’t come with beans and rice or will come with one or the other, despite having more “upscale” pricing, dishes are just very inconsistent and limiting, despite the crazy huge menu. You can only get an $11 *bowl of tortilla soup, you cannot get a cup or side. Our server loved saying no to any question that was asked. Cocktails are about $15 and up. Lighting is so bright, feels like you’re eating in the mall. Just not a cool experience. Management and food runners were the hardest working people we saw. We lived in Venice, FL where another location for this place is and never ate there because of the reviews. So we gave this new one a chance, but meh. There are so many fantastic places in this area, with more hospitality, I don’t think we’ll be back. My partner has been a restaurant cook and I have been a server and bartender, so we give the staff the benefit of the doubt and hope they figure out how to provide a more pleasant experience for everyone, not just la familia. Mi Casa in Plant City has some consistency issues with service and timing, but for the price and consistent quality of the food, I’m always down to eat there. On the flip side, in Venice, FL, Mi Pueblo is pricey, but the service, food, and atmosphere is so nice, that I will always love it there. This place doesn’t have either going for it...
