Gilberto’s – The 24/7 Mexican Comfort Food Hero of Sioux Falls
If you know, you know. And if you don’t? Let me put you on: Gilberto’s is THAT spot. Whether it’s 2 PM or 2 AM, this place is always there for you with cheesy, meaty, saucy goodness that hits every single time.
🌯 Burritos: The California burrito is a beast—packed with carne asada, crispy fries, melty cheese, and guac. It’s heavy in the best way and perfect when you’re craving something bold and filling. I also tried the breakfast burrito (yes, for dinner, no regrets), and it was phenomenal. Eggs cooked right, meat well-seasoned, and that creamy salsa verde? Game-changer.
🌮 Tacos: Simple, classic, and done right. The street tacos come with two tortillas, juicy meat (al pastor is 🔥), and all the right toppings. Add some lime and salsa, and you’re instantly transported to a taco truck in Mexico.
🍟 Carne Asada Fries: Let’s just say… do NOT share unless you’re ready to fight over the last bite. Crispy, cheesy, saucy, and addictive.
🌶 Salsas: They’ve got a full salsa bar that deserves its own Yelp review. Spicy ones actually bring heat, mild ones still pack flavor. Grab a bunch—you’ll use them all.
⏱ Service: Fast, friendly, and no nonsense. Even when it’s busy, they keep things moving. Food comes out hot and fresh. You can tell it’s made with love, not laziness.
🧼 Cleanliness: Spotless for a 24-hour joint. The floors were clean, tables wiped down, and the salsa bar was well-maintained. That alone deserves applause.
🚗 Drive-Thru: Convenient and efficient, especially when you’re not in the mood to leave your car or you’re making a late-night food run in pajama mode.

Final thoughts: Gilberto’s is more than a taco shop—it’s a lifeline. Whether you’re sober, tipsy, hungover, or just hungry, it delivers every time. No frills, no gimmicks, just real food, real fast, with real flavor. Sioux Falls is lucky to...

I always get their super fries with carnitas and no sour cream or guacamole (so basically just french fries, shredded pork and melted shredded cheese), and am hardly ever disappointed with my order, or the taste of their food. However, I am sick and tired of being turned away from ordering. There's been multiple times now where I've walked to their location some time between 3am-5:30am, only to get turned away because they're cleaning their kitchen and equipment. Most times I'm told the kitchen would be down for a whole hour, so waiting wouldn't help. Now, I was told the first time it happened that this happens every night between 4am-5am, so to just avoid that hour. But, since that first occasion it's happened at different times, leaving me confused and frustrated. This last time it happened I came in at 4:50am, they were cleaning the kitchen. After standing there for a few minutes waiting to be addressed by one of the many workers who saw me standing at the register, I was told they couldn't take my order and that they would be down for an hour. I bit my tongue, and went to leave. Then I was stopped by the same employee and told that this always happens between 4 and 5 so to not come during that hour. I repeated that information back to him, and then quoted that the time was now 4:56 so if they were gonna be down for another hour, then that isn't accurate or true. I really hope they regard this experience, because it's the only thing stopping me from giving them 5 star reviews. IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE OPEN 24 HOURS, THEN BE OPEN 24 HOURS. IF YOU'RE NOT, THEN DON'T ADVERTISE YOU ARE. AT THE VERY LEAST, ANSWER THE PHONES WHEN A CUSTOMER CALLS TO SEE IF YOU'RE TAKING...
Read moreI'm only giving it two stars because the owners son was nice and helpful. This location for us has been incredibly hit or miss. We went there tonight and opted to order inside because we didn't want the drive thru to mess up the food (usually our experience). I ordered a #5 and a burrito with rice. When we got home, we had a #4. I can't eat this as the shells have to be corn because I am gluten sensitive. I tried to call, but the restaurant had blocked my number from a previous incident when they charged me for an item I never received and the worker tried to lie about charging it. When we drove back to the store, I told the owners son that I would appreciate if he refunded the entire order and remade the burrito for my husband since it was cold. He did exactly that. I also told him I was blocked on their call system. He did confirm my number was blocked and asked if I recalled who was working. I didn't. It was a young boy working the drive thru and a young short girl who I see frequently there. I spoke to the two of them and one of them must have blocked he. He assured me I would be unblocked. When we got home, the burrito had no rice so the order still wasn't correct. It does seem like this location messes up orders often and unless a manager or owner is available they don't really do much other than refund the food. In my experience with gilberto near seratoma, we only had one mistake and they not only refunded it, but also gave us a few tacos free of charge for the inconvenience as well as remade the food. It's quite the drive, but that location is worth it. I want to stress that I don't think it's the owner or management fault. I think it's mostly those taking the orders and the cooks and somehow communication seems...
