My friends and I have a girls night once a month and we decided to go to granite city as we have always had good service and food. However, last night we had terrible service, our food was incorrectly cooked and had everyone’s food came out at different times. The 6 of us shared the nacho appetizer which was really yummy! Two of us that had arrived first, ordered adult beverages and only one of us got cared. Another friend came and attempted to order an adult beverage and the waitress asked for her ID. She had forgotten her ID so she couldn’t have an adult beverage. We understood this but we’re confused on why not everyone was carded. After the 6 of us put in our order, we waited roughly 45 mins. Which was fine for us as we were just talking and enjoying our appetizer. 3 of us had ordered side salads but we didn’t receive them before our meal like we had asked. After 45 mins, one meal was delivered and her side salad as well. Then we all waited another 10-15 mins for our order. Mind you, we had ALL placed our order at the same time. We all got our meals and side salads at the same time. We had asked one of the bartenders that had helped deliver our meals for more drinks. The same girl that WASNT carded asked him for a drink and he said “oh absolutely!” Bless his heart cause he probably already thought she was carded. He was very kind and had a good attitude about helping our table out. He ended up telling our server that we needed drinks and told that bartender she didn’t have her ID. We respected that but we’re just annoyed at that point. Our server came over after our meal was delivered and asked us if everything was okay. We all asked for refills cause everyone’s glasses were empty. It took her 15 mins to do this, two separate times. One of our steaks was cooked medium well instead of medium. So we kindly asked for a new one. (We are all very kind, gracious and understanding woman!) she then came back and apologized as she had hit the wrong button and she said had informed the manger and they are making a new steak. Wonderful. 🙏🏼 after everyone had ate their meals, the messed up order came. Annoyed with this, we just gave grace and asked for to go boxes. She came back with all of checks and didn’t ask if we were done or wanted dessert. Seemed weird. We all ordered chocolate cake after she had set our checks down. It took another 20mins to get this and we still hadn’t received our to go boxes. After 20mins we got our to go boxes and 3 out of the 5 chocolate cakes. Our dirty supper plates were also still on the table and drinks that were empty. We had no room to enjoy our dessert. Frustrated at this point, we asked for the other desserts, one gal just asked for hers to go and then our new printed out checks. She brought our checks out and the messed up steak order had no discount applied. The waiter didn’t say anything and walked away quickly. When she came back, we asked if they were going to do anything to make it right for the steak and she said her manager did. All he had done was take off $3… we kindly asked if we could speak to the manager. The manager was tall, dark haired and glasses. I believe his name was Axel. He came over and didn’t seem to know what had happened. We explained the situation to him and he said he could take $5 off. He wasn’t apologetic nor did he seem to care. We had shared with him that our service hasn’t been great either and then he changed his mind and stated “I mean I guess I can take $10 off as we had to remake 2 steaks so we can’t really give you much more off.” He still wasn’t remorseful and didn’t seem to care. We stated that we understood but were very disappointed in how they handled the situation and our service. And he then walked away. We will not be returning anytime soon as we feel this is not how you should...
Read moreWent to GC yesterday for Mothers Day. We made a reservation 4 days in advance for 1:45pm. Had to wait another 30min before we were seated. (What’s the point of a reservation but I understand it was busy) server encouraged the buffet for $35/person. He highly discouraged ordering from the menu stating it would take at least 45 min to get food. So we thought eh, for $35 it must be good. It was not. Very disappointing. This buffet wasn’t worth $20. Half of the items were empty & how long would we have to wait for a refill. So my kids were starving & went with it, my brother and I got to the 3rd empty dish and I said ‘I’m out’ as did my brother. It was awful. We ended up ordering a salad thinking that would be the easiest and quickest to get. As my son is eating a croissant he noticed it being funny colored and took a knife and cut it in half to find the whole croissant full of mold. Disgusting! We were all a little hesitant to keep eating and we were disgusted. We let our server know, he just took it away and said he would let the kitchen know. Really??! I’m not looking for a free meal, but a discount should have been offered. This place has really gone down hill. Spent $130 on food and can’t say anything was really good. Very disappointed and dissatisfied. It did also seem they were a bit short handed with help. Our server was decent other than trying to ‘fix’ that situation with the moldy bread. I wish I would’ve taken a picture, but my kids were begging I don’t make a big deal about it (and my son made the res and I didn’t want to make him feel bad) so I didn’t in front of them, but feel this needs to be out there. Our waiter later even joked about the mishap saying ‘uh, we got non-moldy croissants on the buffet now , I hope everything else was okay’. Uh, no buddy no more...
Read moreLast weekend was my second time dining in here and it did not disappoint! As a very late lunch, I ordered the Gastro Pub Bison Burger- something I highly recommend- and it complimented my vanilla porter quite deliciously. Last time I came here, I ordered fish tacos, which were also very delicious! The bartender, Leah, provided me with the best service I have had in a while. Even though she didn’t see me for a couple minutes (as she was at the end of the bar putting away glassware and helping other patrons), she was quick to greet me the moment she did. Right after she handed me a menu, she provided silverware and napkins in perfect time and sampled me two different beers before allowing me to just settle on one. She checked on me before my meal came out and again just a few shorts minutes after taking my first few bites. She offered me to go boxes (which I didn’t need because I intended to finish my entire meal) and cleared my plates when I was ready to pay. She did not smile much, but she was pleasant and knowledgeable and stayed busy amidst a halfway filled bar. It was the exact kind of service I used to give my customers as a former bartender server, but she went above my expectations since I rarely ever receive the same service at other establishments (I sometimes deal with racism). I hope Leah is my bartender the next time I come in, or if not, I wish the next bartender I get at my next visit here will be just as good, if not better! Leah’s point of service should be a training standard throughout the serving and bartending staff! The cook who made my burger sets a high standard as well! Aside from all that, Granite City is good food. Good music. Beautiful and welcoming ambience and just a really cozy vibe that makes you feel at home! So far, I...
