This restaurant used to be so good, especially the Sunday buffet. It had been a while since I’d been there, so I and my friend decided to go there for lunch. What a huge disappointing change.
There were three young women at the hostess stand, and we were told we could eat in the cantina area with no wait, but it was noisy and packed, with no tables available. So we decided to wait for a table and they told us it would be about 20 minutes. This really surprised us because there were empty tables in the restaurant. We said OK and we sat down to wait.
While we were sitting there waiting, the three girls at the hostess stand were snickering and talking amongst themselves, especially each time more customers came in, as though they were making snide remarks about them. They would also glance over at us doing the same. The most obnoxious of the three, who seemed like the ringleader so to speak, was constantly putting chapstick on over and over. It was almost as though the customers were annoying them just by being there.
A small group of people walked in and told about the wait, yet headed into the dining room. We were getting very irritated at this point, and I asked why they got to go in first? However the group then turned around and headed into the Cantina. A young man (employee) walked up to the girls while chugging an energy drink, stood and talked to them for a few minutes, before laughing and going back to wherever he came from.
We finally got seated, and the waitress was actually very nice, God bless her. We got our food fairly quickly but it was very subpar. We were hungry so we tried eating it. We both asked for guacamole, and were each given a small cup of it. Mine was good so I was really surprised when my friend said she couldn’t eat hers because it was too salty. I tasted hers and literally almost choked on the amount of salt in it. It was horrible.
At this point we were very concerned about them tainting our food, which was very apparent by her guacamole, and decided that’s it, we’re done. We stopped eating, got up and paid and left.
It was the worst dining experience I have ever had, and I will never eat there again. It’s sad because it used to be such a wonderful restaurant. So if you do eat there, I advise you to look over your food carefully...
Read moreI'm not sure what was going on with Chevy's on the night of my most recent visit, but it was the worst experience I have ever had there. Chevy's used to be my favorite place to go, now I am unsure if I will chance going back. Perhaps they were short staffed that night, but we arrived at 6:22 p.m. and told there was a 25 minute wait. By 7p.m we were still not seated and a worker had come out to the host and said 'no more seating in the dining area, we are closing that section.' The host said nothing to us, and considering how long we had already waited, we chose to go into the bar area to get dinner moving along. We waited again for a waitress to show up. Once she had come and asked for drinks and taken our order, she brought a water glass that had a black chunk of plastic in it. Then after eating some of the chips we noticed that there was standing water in the bottom of the chip basket, thus making the chips soggy. As to my meal in particular, the pesto sauce had no flavor and was not the usual color. The rice had large chunks of tomato in it and it was still very moist. All of us at the table commented that the tomalito did not seem fully cooked and was very wet. When we were all done eating, we waited and waited for the waitress to bring our checks and then waited some more for her to come pick up our CC. Finally, we took our check up to the bartender so we could get checked out and leave. He seemed very annoyed at this, and then the waitress saw us and came to finish checking us out. It took over 2 hours for us to go out to dinner.
All in all, it was an unbelievable experience. I have heard that Chevy's is under new management. I do not know if this is true or not. I can say that I have never had this type of experience at Chevy's in the past, so, if there is new management, service is slipping, cooking is not the same and if others are having this same experience, this restaurant isn't going to last long. I am sad to loose a favorite spot to eat out. I hope this was a one time situation, but not sure that I'm willing to try again...
Read moreChevy’s has been one of my top favorite restaurants for years now. However, the last two times I’ve been there the food just hasn’t been good. I have only two dishes that I ever order - the shrimp and seafood enchiladas or the flautas. A couple weeks ago I had the enchiladas and there wasn’t even one piece of shrimp in it. Initially I was very happy about this because I pick those out anyway as I don’t like them. However the ‘seafood’ that was in it had a very fishy flavor which is not typical, plus they had very large pieces of green onion mixed in, which is the first time they’ve done this (normally it has red and green peppers). The green onions did not compliment the dish at all. I love veggies, but never feel I can order them as a side as they always seem barely sautéed and overly hard, and just aren’t appealing.
Last night my family ate there and my husband said the refried beans were crazy spicy. I thought that he was exaggerating as they normally aren’t spicy at all, so I tried them myself. My mouth immediately felt like it was on fire. At first I thought it was a fluke and maybe I got a bite where the seasonings hadn’t gotten mixed in. But unfortunately all of it was WAY over spiced - I like spicy food, but could only handle eating a few more bites mixed with rice. My husband refused to even try another bite. I had ordered the flautas… I’ll never forget the first time I had them at Chevy’s - they were AMAZING and I honestly thought it was one of the best dishes I ever had in my life! However, they’ve changed them since and now they are just so, so. They used to be thinner which made them crispier and much easier to dip. Now they are way overly thick and have a rather mushy texture. The flavor just isn’t there anymore. Authentic flautas are thin, and usually the crispier the better.
Long story short, the changes they’ve made to my two ‘go to’ dishes have definitely not been for the better. Unfortunately Chevy’s has been taken off my favorites list, and I don’t ever plan on eating there again unless I’m with company who requests...
