Although the food & coffee at Queen City is amazing, I’m giving them a 3/5 solely due to customer service. Last fall, I visited with my sister. It was late afternoon on a Saturday, and they weren't busy at all. I was met with a very cold & annoyed barista who treated us like we were nuisances for being there. I tried not to let her poor attitude get to me since everyone has bad days, & I like to give stores second chances. However, I went back again yesterday to grab a coffee & food to-go to celebrate my birthday. I went at 10am on a Saturday, so they were much busier, but the line was moving quickly. The customer service I received was even worse this time. The barista kept asking “what else?” in an annoyed tone every time I added something onto my order, and he spoke to me like I’d personally wronged him. I’m a very easy & forgiving customer. As someone with social anxiety, I always make sure to order quickly & efficiently when there’s long lines, and I always speak kindly & with a smile. To be met with hostility from the baristas on two different occasions makes me question the culture that’s been created at Queen City. Even though the food & decor is terrific, it’s not worth it to feel belittled & talked down to, especially on my own birthday. Based on some of the reviews I’ve read, I’m not the first person to receive this treatment. I seriously hope the managers look into their customer service & do some reflection, because if that’s the only thing keeping customers from returning, it feels like a waste of a...
Read moreThis is the place to come for amazing quiche, I think about the quiche often during my week, it's that good. Espresso is great, blueberry crumb bar --also great. Food here is without question, incredible and memorable. The thing I was a little uneasy about was the general atmosphere of the staff. Particularly the pretty, long haired brunette. Every time I have been here I've had some sort of interaction with her, she rings me up, takes my order, plops a food item down in front of me. So I feel like this is pretty steady behavior. Look, I think if you're going to have grumpy staff, that's totally fine, your food and efficient service more than make up for it. So if that's the route you want to take, I think you should just lean into it or try to be a little more friendly. It would almost be a cool shtick to have, sort of like the Soup Nazi, ya know? But if that's not what you're going for then perhaps...perhaps...just don't glare at every customer that you're helping. I'm almost 100% sure it's nothing personal at all, but that's not a great point of argument when you work in customer service. Again though, I don't even care if you're still mildy and unintentionally rude to me (I'm oversensitive anyway), I'll keep coming back for the quiche chefs kiss.
