We moved to around this side of town recently and wanted to try a new Vietnamese pho restaurant. My husband and I took our parents and sister here, we were hoping for at least some sort of customer service. We came in, wasn’t greeted at all, yes I understand it’s a “self-service” concept after being told that after we all sat down along with two small kids too. We ordered on the screen and the robot comes out to bring the waters/drinks and we get up to get our food as well. If it’s a “self-service” restaurant then why ask for tips while putting in our orders on screens ourselves? What are we paying for the tips for if we couldn’t even be greeted or even have waters brought out to us. My husband and I have no problem tipping min of 18% and plus every time we eat out. Not once did the server came to ask us if we needed anything else. Anything extra we needed, my husband had to get up and walk to the front to ask. The server seemed like he was in a bad mood, maybe he had a bad day. I’m giving one star bc the food isn’t bad, it isn’t the best pho I’ve had but I’m being fair to the restaurant and not base it solely from the customer service. If you like serving yourself literally everything from waters to veggies on the side, and not having anyone bother you then you would def like this place. But if you’re expecting to come out to eat at a restaurant and paying for the experience and tipping for the experience then maybe...
Read moreMy party of three was not impressed with the place.
We walked in and was not immediately greeted by anyone, and was confused about whether to go up to the counter or if we were to be seated like a normal dine-in restaurant. After half a minute of pondering, we were handed menus and then directed to sit anywhere.
We ordered three pho bowls, a smoothie, and a Thai milk tea. The Thai milk tea was "different" and was barely touched and the smoothie tasted very watered down. (There is a nearby place that does these much better.) A water was requested for and was directed to a water container with spout that had orange slices in it, and it tasted a little funny, so not much of that was consumed either.
We've never gone to a place that served pho, that did not have the garnishes/toppings on the side (ie; cilantro, onions, bay/mint leaves, bean sprouts, etc.) - these are all included in your bowls already. We weren't fond of this approach. Our party also had was not very fond of beef cuts (flank, brisket, and tripe) used either.
They have Banh Mi, Vermicelli, and Rice Bowls on the menu as well for a similar ($16+) amount, but felt like pho would be the best value given the similar prices.
Not sure we'd come back to try the other drinks or bowls. It wasn't a horrible experience by any means, but it wasn't an...
Read moreI remember coming to Bon De Paris when it was first open. I really like the bread they used when they first open and it actually tasted pretty good. Well fast forward to today, I came in and ordered two special combos sandwiches and didn’t see anything out of the norm. Until that is I see people carrying their to go bags out with the I Luv Pho logo on it. Hoping it’s not really I Luv Pho because I never had a good experience with the actual restaurant when it was in the area, turns out it is most likely them. The price was cheaper at $5 per sandwich when compared to the original price of $8. Sandwich is your typical Vietnamese banh mi but the filling on the inside was terrible. Instead of using the right spread they used American mayo. Now if you’re a fan of the typical Vietnamese banh mi then don’t expect it from “Bon De Paris.” The flavor isn’t right and if they thought by using American mayo is better then I’m sorry but they’re wrong. I been to plenty of restaurants that offer banh mi but every one of them use the correct mayo. Also the bread was stale! Like the mayo they used threw me off already but stale bread? I should have taken the extra 15 to 20 minutes and head into Duluth for banh mi...
