On a business trip visiting South Carolina from Florida. On the way home from work saw the sign that says “Skins” and i thought I recognized the name from a viral youtube video. Double checked and sure enough it was a match! When I pulled up I realized it was 9 minutes before closing! Instant disappointment ! Then I saw an employee through the window wave us in! Instant excitement ! I stopped in with my boy Tony, the hospitality and the homey vibe was exceptional and the Dogs did not disappoint! I extremely enjoyed the entire experience and being told about the History of the restaurant by the Owner Russel. All family owned! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Big thanks for the welcoming and great service! (Tony says “Best Dogs in the U.S.”)

Somewhat decent dogs but I get way better ones back home. (The Clock of Lyman or Red Hill) The Chili is very bland and needs tons of mustard and hot sauce Just to flavor it up. They could at least make their own tea but from what responses I have read from the owner, they are unwilling to change because this is always how they have done things. Iced tea is better with dogs and I don't care how long you've been doing it.

I grew up with Carolina Chili Dogs and this is a taste of home for me. Weiner, carolina chili, onions and mustard on a soft steamed bun. I had 2 with some sour cream and onion chips and a side of pickle spears. Simple perfection for me, I've missed these and Skins is a great place to get them.

Hotdog stands, as they were once known, have been a highlight of local fast food dining for about 75 years (more?). Skin's is the best and most successful chain in upstate SC. All locally owned— still no franchisees — meaning better quality control and a more consistent experience from one location to another. Other than being among the last and best hotdog stands, what makes Skin's special is their unique hot dogs. Their frankfurters are high quality and less salty or spicy than some. Their chilli is especially unique. It stands in harmony with the flavour of the wiener itself, not overwhelming it. Many hotdog chillis are of poor quality beef, not minced finely enough or overwhelmingly spicy, sweet or both. Skin's? Quality, finely minced, not bland but not overwhelming flavoured. (I suspect some other places use intense chilli flavour to mask the lesser quality of other ingredients.) The buns seem to be steamed, but never soggy. These are hotdogs prepared the Carolina way. If you're looking for consistent quality go to Skin's, if you are looking to indulge your nostalgia for New York, Philadelphia or Chicago, go elsewhere; but be warned, by doing so, you may find different but you won't find better. Unlike any other fast food restaurants Skin's offers table service. And it's fast...

Skin's is a southern thing. Some people, we call them nonsoutherners, think the hot dogs are too bland. Not true, the flavors are subtle and you can taste every ingredient in every bite. This is not a place to get crazy with the toppings, besides you are eating a traditional southern, dinner on the ground, family reunion, perfection of a hotdog. It is not about the fries, there aren't any, grab a bag of chips. It is not about some fancy soda dispenser, not one of those either, grab a bottle or can of soda or tea out of the cooler. This is about the hotdog. A subtle flavored meat that shines in its deliciousness topped with a mild chili and any combination of mustard, ketchup (packets only) and onions. Truthfully the ketchup slips in there for the kiddos. To eat it right order it all the way and it is served with chili, onions and mustard - that's it and that's...

I want to preface this by saying that i eat hot dogs almost every day.

I stopped in this place on my way back to Charlotte. The name appears to now be skin's. This was one of the worst hot dog places I've ever been to. I informed the cashier I had never been there before hoping to get a suggestion, but all I got was and air of hurry up and get out. I ordered a hotdog with chili. The bun was soft, and the dog was okay. I like boiled dogs. But the chili tasted like reheated potted meat. I've had better chili at the gas station. She didn't even ask if I wanted any fries, which I didn't even see on the menu anyway. Dining in didn't seem to be an option because she rang it up to go without asking. I definitely won't be back, and I don't recommend it to...
