Maria's Taste Of Italy — Restaurant in South Haven

On vacation in S Haven and hub and I were hungry for Pizza, the very best thin crust pizza to be had is Maria’s downtown, bar none!!! After shopping we decided to have an early dinner and was seated immediately when we arrived. Our waitress was a very sweet and cheerful young lady and approached us as soon as we were seated. They have a great bottle Root-beer selection and I ordered the Dang that’s good butterscotch flavored, and dang was it ever good tasty and refreshing, yum! We ordered a side Caesar salad and split it, it was excellent with fresh romaine lettuce, great croutons, lots of shaved Parmesan cheese and delish dressing. The pizza is thin crust and comes in small and large sizes, we ordered a small meat lovers pizza well done. Our pizza came in a timely fashion hot out of the oven and looking very inviting. It was too darn hot to take a bit, but I was tempted to. The wait only lasted seconds and we dove into it and chowed down, it was cooked perfectly well done and had loads of gooey cheese and ample toppings. This pizza was just delicious and we truly enjoyed our dinner. Our waitress was fantastic, great service and the bill was very reasonable for what you get. This place is very popular with the locals and on the weekends they quit taking phone orders for carry outs about 4:00. My tip to you would be eat early so you are not disappointed having to wait for a table or turned away. Restaurant is a smaller place with great food and reasonable prices. So disappointed with the service! I came in tonight to celebrate my birthday with my family. We were sat and it took over 15 minutes for anyone to approach us. The restaurant wasn’t very busy, there were multiple empty tables around us. Once the server came, we ordered our drinks, appetizer, and meals all at once. 30 minutes later we still had NOTHING served to us. We were about to leave and the server came with a side salad and our appetizer. She sat the items on the table and went to walk away. We had to ask for our drinks for them to finally be served- she did get them at that time. Once she walked away, we realized we had no silverware, no plates for the app, and the salad had no dressing with it. The salad looked like it was from a bag on the back of the shelf at the grocery store. It had limp, brown lettuce and mushy tomatoes. At this point, we cancelled the rest of our order and asked for the bill. We went to the front to pay and no one was around. As staff continued to walk by us, we stopped them to see who could check us out. Twice we were told “not me” or “I can’t do that”. Someone finally checked us out while another server stood near by complaining.

We are pretty patient people- especially with the staffing issues in the world. There was a lack of effort overall tonight. No one took responsibility to ensure customers were at least greeted/welcomed. There seemed to be young girls running things. I never saw anyone “in charge”. Leadership needs to step and provide better...

New to the area, and on vacation, we were interested in finding a nice place to eat one night of the week we were going to be in South Haven. Being Italian we saw that Maria's had pretty good reviews so we got ready and we're excited to get an authentic Italian dinner. 7 adults and 1 child. We tried to call ahead and make a reservation, but they said they don't take reservations, which was disappointing, but not a problem. When we got there, we were told that it would be about an hour and 15 minute wait. Which again was disappointing but not a big problem. We figured we could take a walk around town and be back in time. So outside of the restaurant we were getting ready to take off and before we could the hostess came outside and told us that they had a table ready for us. We were pleasantly surprised that they figured out a way to accommodate a bigger party so quickly. A couple heard about us in passing and decided to move to a smaller table to help us out. So far everyone was very nice and helpful. So we sat down within 10 minutes of arriving. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. The service was solid. The best part was the food. We all would give the food 5 stars. We didn't have to wait too long and everything came out correctly and as expected. We all were very satisfied. Taylor our server was solid as well. We highly recommend Maria's if you're in South Haven! Delicious...
