Flake Pie Co — Restaurant in South Jordan

After all the rave reviews I heard from my foodie friends, I had to try this place. Located in a quaint shopping plaza in Salt Lake County. Luckily I got there before dinner/dessert time so the place wasn't too busy. Grabbed about half a dozen for dessert after dinner!

I was warmly greeted by a super-duper friendly gal and I told her it was my duty to give them an honest review so I am doing my community a service that day (smiling).

It's literally just a pie/bakery shop, storefront, with no seats available in the small lobby area. For my half dozen, I chose: raspberry, key lime, banana creme, chocolate caramel, peanut butter is my jam, and chocolate pot de creme. My favorite: banana cream! Had the right amount of bananas, not too overpowering, and the crust was great. I really do love these individual-sized pies, especially during the pandemic. You don't have to cut into a normal-sized pie to try different pies, you just get your own small individual-sized one.

In my opinion, one personalized pie is enough to share for two people, but maybe others will disagree as others can probably finish this individual-sized pie on their own!

The pot de creme was really delicious, as the creaminess of the chocolate was not super chocolatey, but more of a subtle chocolate flavor but you can definitely taste the creme in every bite, very obvious. It's a nice treat to get oneself (or others) and to be able to give them different tastes of every pie without breaking the bank! I have yet to try their "pop tart" looking pastries on...

First, the positive: their savory hand pies are AMAZING. From the Hey Pig Spender (w/ pulled pork, roasted corn, black beans and cheese) to the (currently) limited-time Tikka Chance On Me (roasted chicken, house-made tikka masala sauce, potatoes and veggies), they are outstanding. So much flavor packed into a buttery, flaky crust; my wife and I will definitely be getting these again. Definitely do not pass these up!

(One negative point on the hand pies: we were supposed to get four of the Tikka pies, but we got shorted by one. Not a big deal, because they gave us another pork one in its place by mistake, but figured I'd mention it.)

Next, the negative: other than their "Sweet Child O'Lime" (Key lime pie), which my wife loved, the pies we bought from them were very disappointing. The peanut butter pie's Oreo crust was burnt on the bottom; we could clearly taste the burnt flavor in it, which ruined the rest of the pie. The apple pie's filling didn't appeal to me; there was a spice flavor to it that I couldn't identify, something different than I'm used to for apple pie. Finally, the banana cream pie's meringue topping tasted burnt even though it wasn't that dark, and the only part of the "banana cream" that tasted like bananas were the actual banana pieces inside it.

Sadly, we won't likely be partaking of their regular pies again, but the hand pies will be a definite...

Aren't you over the cookie scene here in Utah? Trust me I love a good cookie just as much as the next guy but doesn't it get exhausting paying 4 dollars for a cookie that's larger than your face and that realistically you probably won't eat in one sitting because it is way too sweet? Well, Flake Pie Co. is the solution. Why get a typical cookie when you could get a super rad pie/flakie (i.e. pop tart) in a variety of flavors any time of day? Their pies really pack a lot of flavors but are much easier to eat and less nauseating than most cookie companies.

Food & Presentation I ordered the She's My Berry Pie, raspberry fields forever, the sweet child O'Lime and the raspberry flakie. The berry pie was absolutely phenomenal in flavor and the O'Lime tasted just like a key lime pie. The presentation of the pies was amazing as well. They all look so perfect and beautiful. The bright blue box makes them pop-out even more and look even more delicious.
